Working on plan for building my shack. I’ve been reading about trunked systems and digital, but I really don’t think any of my area has moved that way. I’m in Bangor Maine. Since my one scanner is locked in to my department for the feed I’m curious about the rest of the area.

Also, since we have two feeds already canvasing the area, what would people like to hear when I upgrade?

Well according to the database entry, digital hasn't come to Maine - yet. However, in a year or two, looks like there will be...

Anyway, normally I'd point you to our Maine forum, but there doesn't seem to be much activity there. There is some additional data in the Scan New England wiki, and I would recommend joining up with Scan New England Maine forum, and/or the Scan Maine Yahoo group.

Once you have informed yourself, then c'mon back here and use our wiki to research the various scanners and options you want...here are some links for you, and note anything in blue is a link...

Right now you should be good with analog in the Bangor area. Lewiston/Auburn PD went digital a few years back. There is some digital in the Augusta area, along with Biddeford. Having said all of that, when (if) the State Police goes to the new system, the word is it will be VHF Trunking and likely digital. Who knows what will happen then. But you should be good for a couple of years, at least.

Thanks for the Links and the info. I'm just trying to feel out what people would like to come out of Bangor since most of the simple stuff is very covered. I live under Bangor International, so I'm thinking that would be a nice addition to the audiofeed. It would give me something to focus on as I build.

I'll start reading Scan New England also.

Morning

I saw your thread on the penob fire stuff.

All of Penob is analog narrow band no P25.
I have quite a bit of data on tome outs for depts if you are interested.

Curious why Bangor does not use tone outs /

swlk1us – We used to tone out our outside stations over the radio. When Dispatched was upgraded, moved to PD, the city installed a new communication system. This involved city phones, internet, the city server, everything. Now, dispatch pushes a button, lights and different tones go off in the station per what the call is. Then dispatch follows with an announcement of units and type of call. That’s why you won’t hear tones in Bangor.

When the trucks are on the road we have MDT’s that work half the time. Dispatch does its normal thing anyways, but we see what’s coming and can get most of the info off the computers.
