• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I think some programming went wrong on one of my new BF-888s radios, and now when it's powered on and tuned to a frequency (in this case 452.350) there's constant static that none of my radios are receiving, almost like the squelch is open or the monitor key is being held down. Does anyone have any idea what this is and how I can solve it? I can't find a reset option anywhere

This is the only thing the manual says settings in the software.
Asterisk [ * ] designates function changed via software
* SQUELCH LEVEL The purpose of the Squelch is to mute the speaker when no signals are present. With the squelch correctly set, you will only hear sound when a signal is present.

I’ve tried every setting and nothing changes, so I don’t think it’s the squelch. I actually managed to get it working briefly but I reconnected it to the computer to program it again and the problem came back and won’t go away this time.

UPDATE: For some reason, it accepted a VHF import meant to go to my 5R (i accidentally clicked the wrong file) and that wound up on the 888S. It doesn't do the static thing when its on a VHF frequency, but when it's using a UHF frequency the static issue returns. Have I messed up the board or something?

Just out of curiosity do you know who that frequency belongs to? I'm wondering if you are trying to listen to a service that is on a digital system and not analog.

Does it disappear if you remove the antenna? If so, maybe there is something generating RF in the close area around you. Does it happen if you go outside? If it still happens when you remove the antenna then I'm guessing it is a self-generated RF signal or "birdie". There won't be any way of getting around that.

The antenna doesn’t seem to make a difference, so it seems like it’s generating a signal itself. What really gets me is that it didn’t happen until I tried de-programming the factory frequencies. Up until I plugged it into the computer it worked great.
