• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

do not get the f9v2 it's just a rebranded f8hp

they are share the same batteries, accessories, whatever.

the f8hp is 8 watts instead of the normal 5.

there really isnt much difference between them.

have you considered the UV-82 ?

Looked at it. Was interested in the tri power. Only use what you need. I am about 10mi. From a repeater. It looks like the f9+tp is not backward compatible with extent d batteries etc. of the 5r series

This BL-5 1800mAh 7.4V stock Li-ion battery is specially designed for Baofeng UV-5R, UV-5RE, UV-5RA and Pofung UV-5R, UV-5RE, UV-5RA radio.

extra couple of watts is not going to make that much of a difference.

a good antenna will make a MUCH bigger difference.

I bought the f9+to and the UV-82. I like the reviews on the 82. I just hope it can hit a repeater 10 miles away. I will find out.

make sure you get the FTDI programming cable.

and i would also recommend a quality antenna.
that is going to make the largest difference on these radios..

although I do not know that exact scenario, i find it hard to believe you would not be able to hit a repeater 10 miles away.

Baofeng BF-F9V2+ real or knockoff

I have had a BF-F9V2+ for about a month now. On the inside it says it's Baofeng, it has that on the front as well and came with a Baofeng BL-5L 3800 battery. I added a Nagoya NA-771 ant. So far it picks up just fine. Repeater is about 20 miles away. I programmed with Chirp, piece of cake. Not sure where the Pofung versions are coming from, but mine says it's all Baofeng. I have been told it's just a knock off, but I don't have the version that it is supposed to be a copy of, yet, it's in the mail and should be here in a day or two.
