If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I bought 3 baofeng radios. 2 uv-5r and 1 uv-5r+ v2.
One if the 5r only has a few ctcss tones to scroll through. I have to manually enter the ctcss. The other 2 radios are fine, I can use the up and down arrows to go through all the tones. Should this radio be returned or will a factory reset fix it? I don't see any way to delete those tones and I figured it's preprogrammed and a reset will not help. thanks in advance.

You need to totally reprogramm the radios for the frequencies you are licensed to use. What comes in these radios are nothing more than test data, which should immediately be replaced with frequencies and tones you are licensed to use. Use of a programming cable and computer software is the quickest way to manage this. To manually reprogram, you MUST entirely delete the programmed channel and reprogram the channel. You cannot simply just remove a CTCSS tone.... the entire channel must be deleted and reprogrammed.

This makes no sense. There should be the 50 standard CTCSS tones and you should be able to scroll through all of them with the up/down keys. Sounds like a defective radio.

I'm not referring to the whatever saved channels that there may be in the radio. I'm referring to the ctcss setting when the repeater needs one. When I go to T-CTCS and hit the up or down arrow there are only a couple of CTCSS tones to choose from. Will a system reset fix this?

You still can't change the ctcss tone in a programmed channel. You'll hae to delete the channel and reprogram from the beginning.....unless you are using a computer to program.

:Like they said, get CHIRP or whatever program and a cable and reprogram the radio for the frequencies you're licensed for. (Remove the frequencies that came in the radio. You can't use them under any circumstances.) Unless you're only listening, just about everything those radios do requires a license. It's not certified for FRS use.

If you are in frequency mode (VFO mode) and you can't scroll through all 50 CTCSS tones or 200+ DCS codes then something is wrong with the radio. I don't know if a full reset will fix it. The radio could be defective or you could have bricked it if you used an image file from another radio.

We don't know where the OP is and he didn't say anything about using default frequencies or FRS. He could be legally using it for ham radio or be in another country where it doesn't matter.

You're right. However, I just noticed that the phone he used (with Tap A Talk) is an LG VS995. I think that model is only sold in the US so maybe I lucked out this time.

Do at least 2 "resets" on the radio itself.
Don't use the Baofeng software to do the reset

After the reset check the CTCSS again and see if they
are all there. Sounds like a glitch to me
