Old news..Yesterday bout 2pm a prisoner from the medium security prison, or work camp as the locals call it, wallked away while on a cleaning detail at the Camp Kitwin site. He was recaptured about 10 oclock or so last night.
Listening to the scanner was a hoot because I've spent lots of time out in the sticks up here but always with a compass.
They had many teams conducting the search and for almost half of the time they didn't know where they were because our leaves hadn't dropped and the GPS units couldn't acquire the satelites and many of the 800 radios wouldn't burn through the leaves either.
Luckily everything came out okay.
They should take the time and teach these guys how to use a compass and carry a map. Everyone relies so heavily on electronics these days. Dead batteries or heavy canopy up here and you could find yorself in trouble. It was heavy overcast and no sun or moon to use after dark.
I hope someone learned from this.
