• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I’ve been on Batlabs since the OLD website ( pre 2001 ) and man compared to those days from the late 90’s until probably the early 2010’s - Batlabs was THE place to be. The For Sale section was always busy, members were posting new content many many times per day, etc.

Now - it’s a ghost town.

How should I know, I don't run the place. I'm providing you with info, you'll have to ask the owner of the board why they have decided to disable the registration process.

Like someone else said, it's been a ghost town over the past few years, you're not missing much.

The old Batboard is on life support. many Old timers have moved to Communications support. or just the multiple Facebook pages related to Motorola or other brands.

The Batboard is basically just a Buy, Trade and Sell forum now.

Don't waste your time. Once upon a time it was the place to learn something. But it's been under new mismanagement for many years now, and any relevant knowledge and the people who were posting it have been absolutely crushed under the banhammer. In amateur radio terms, batlabs is operating on 14.313 MHz....or CB channel 19. Either works as an appropriate metaphor. Yes, there are some participants who just want to talk about radio without controversy. But it's not that kind of environment anymore, and it's due to the toxicity of the admin staff and their cronies that contaminate that site's forums.

When the whackers take over...every reason to visit the site goes bye-bye.

I remember the time that Lee (the owner) elevated me to admin status over there just for the fun of it. Oh, the $#!tstorm that caused among the .......fine gentlemen:unsure::poop:;)...... who were running the site! I heard about it from Lee. They were really scared by that. My admin status just lasted a few days because it was all a joke. But it was funny as heck.

There was a time when THIS site functioned as "radio elementary school" and Batlabs was high school and beyond. But now Batlabs is "school for the special kids who ride on short buses" and for the more advanced learning, there are other sites for that. This site has filled in the gap that Batlabs USED to fill, but if you want to go beyond what you can learn here, you find the other sites. Usually by word of mouth. There, you may find information we don't talk about here. Post-graduate level stuff, sometimes.

I thought I was the only one who saw that board as empty these days. Shame, as it was once THE place for all things Motorola (as an above poster said) I got on around 2001 myself and it’s sad to see what happened to it.

Good evening all (Tuesday 2-28 @ about 11:00 pm EST)

The above thread is a bit disheartening / a bummer for me to hear, as I was going to attempt to sign-up at BatLabs for access to their Forum so as to possibly find some good-homes for at least some of the large amount of Motorola equipment, NOS replacement-parts, manuals, etc. that I've collected since being retired from the Commercial 2-Way-Radio portion of my business (Klein Communications) in 2007, and am just now starting to finally un-pack all the boxes of "stuff" from my initial retirement & move to my new home here in north-central, West "by God" Virginia.

I'm hoping someone can suggest / direct me to where would be the best place(s) for me to accomplish the task-at-hand.

BTW & FYI >Career Resume<

Started as the service-manager & repair-technician for East-Coast-Stereo, and then Old-Greenwich-Stereo in Greenwich, Connecticut (1977-1980)

Became lead-technician for the Motorola-owned service-center in Pittsfield, Massachusetts (1980-1986)

Possess an FCC 1st Class Radiotelephone License with a Radar endorsement, issued in 1980, and later became NABER certified in 1985, became a holder of two (2) FAA avionics certifications in 1982, and six (6) equipment-model-specific certifications by 1986, from the Motorola schooling center, in Schaumberg, Illinois.

Started a sole-proprietorship of Klein Communications (Stephentown / New Lebanon, NY in 1987) and have continued servicing many types of private-sector, and municipal-sector Commercial, 2-Way Radio communications equipment to present day (including various types of audio amplifiers & small to large power back-up systems).

Also an Extra-Class Amateur-Radio Operator ( KY8E )

Regards / 73s,
Eric Klein

I was/still am/ a member at batlabs for a long time. It's really gone down hill. Not sure what you'd gain by joining that site, even if you could. I pop over there maybe once/twice a year, but never find much useful anymore.

Communications.support is more active. Just be aware, they don't stand for radioreference type shenanigans over there. It's oriented towards professionals, not hobbyists.

Speaking of Communication.Support I can’t seem to log into their site anymore. Seems they won’t allow users with an AOL email account to join since I guess they’re getting lots of spammers. That’s the only email I have and I’ve had it since like 2003 haha

Before you could at least view the posts over there when you’re not logged in but fairly recently they changed it where you have to be logged in to even view what the posts say, let alone respond.
