Hello,

Concerning NiMH AA rechargeable batteries for the 500:

Are the Sony ones considered these days to be the "best" ?

Is 2600 mahours about as high in capacity as they go ?

I have seen something about "hybrid NiMH" batteries.
Anyone know anything about them, or are perhaps using them ?

Thanks,
Bob

The new Hybrid batteries are supposed to hold their charge much longer than the standard NiMH do. They only come in 2000-21000 mAH ratings as of now.
I have been using the Powerex 2700mAH batteries for quite a while and they work fine.
There is one problem with the higher mAH batteries that I have found, they are at times slightly too large to fit inside everything. I have a small amplified speaker unit that just wont take the batteries, and an older digital camera where they fit in too tight.

I have never seen or used Sony NiMH rechargeables, so I am not sure they have anything going fot them but the name. In some tests a couple of years ago Sanyo and Energizer seemed to be best. I have used them both and I have no complaints about either. Energizers are readily available at Wal-Mart for pretty good prices.

For the last year I have picked up POWER2000 2900 NiMH AA on ebay. They are great. Only problem already noted is they are slightly larger dia. Not problem in radio's tho.

I use the HYBRID and performance is better than Hi-Cap NiMH, and don't self discharge.
