First, you should ask what the "L's" going on with that scanner :)

Ocasionally mine seems to get locked up and needs to be powered off and left for awhile before powering back up. I seem to remember an L being displayed, so it might be a simple fault indicator like PLL not locked.

The manual doesn't mention it. It isn't to do with channel lockout, which is indicated by a separate LED.

Since I have one of these and have never seen it do that, I did a little googling and found this cached link which seems to explain it. Good information for a possible future repair. :D

The BC560XLT is the same as Radio Shack's PRO-2025. You can get a PDF manual at www.mods.dk.

Click on Radio Shack and then Manuals.

Thanks Lou, good tip. Now I'm starting to remember more, it hasn't happened in a while. Mine is a PRO-2025, which for most purposes is the same.

I've also had a problem with it getting locked up so that the squelch is stuck ON i.e. it can scan and never stop. On manual with squelch all the way off, there is no audio. If I push the REVIEW button, sometimes several times in a row, the audio comes back after the digits cycle through. Maybe it's related to the other problem, maybe not.

L displayed on the screen of any of the Uniden scanners with a 2 digit display means loss of programming information in the radio. The charge in the memory capacitor is exhausted, the charge can last anywhere from 30 minutes to the better part of a day depending on vintage and age of the radio.
Programing of the frequencies is needed and next time either leave radio connected to power source and use off switch or change batteries when the low battery alert comes on,
