I have a BC 72 XLT that I have owned for several years. One day, out of the blue, the audio quit working. The scanning and all features work fine as far as I can tell, but when the scanner stops on an active frequency, very very little, to no audio is heard. I can use ear buds/head phones with the volume as high as it will go, and if I'm in a very quiet environment, I can barely hear the audio. Any ideas on a "do-it-yourself" repair?

I don't expect this will be a problem with the headphone jack since he's trying to listen to audio from the speaker.

The OP was able to listen to his scanner until recently, and based on his description of the issue, my estimation is that the audio amplifier component in the scanner (which drives the speaker, and the headphone jack) has failed.

He gets the same audio whether on the internal speaker, or via the headphone jack, so it's neither of those things. Next up is the audio amplifier.
