Id like to ask if anyone has tried to connect thier BC296D to a laptop using a Serial DB-9 to USB interface cable.I bought a cable from Comp usa made by " Cables to Go". When I connect I hear an added background noise in my scanner speaker.According to the guys a Butel any USB to serial adapter will work with the software.I have tried changeing Comm ports but this seems not to work.Any help or idea's would be appreciated

OK, I had a chance to work with this today and found a answer to my own question.First I wanted to be sure USB cable adapter would work with the Uniden Serial programing cable so I installed driver on my XP based desktop.I did one thing different with the USB adapter cable after installing the driver, I connected it to the scanner cable and then plugged it in to the USB port.XP installed the device and it worked perfect with Butel software(ARC 250).So I uninstalled the driver in Vista,I wanted to be sure I had the latest driver for the cable so I did a Live Chat with Tec Support at "Cables to Go.com".I must say these guys are great Excellent Tech support group with "ENGLISH" speaking tech's. KUDO's to Andrew. He thought same as I did that the driver may have not installed correctly and recomended I go to their web site and download the Vista Driver. So I did. It installed and I did the same as the XP install. CONNECT the Scanner to serial cable( Uniden cable) then to the USB adapter FIRST, then connect to the USB port on the laptop AFTER you have installed the drivers. It installed correctly and works great even at 57600bps using Windows Vista and a Hint that you may have a bad install is the added background noise because with a correct install the noise I heard is now gone also. hope this helps someone else
