Newbie wanting to get a new scanner, just a basic scanner to replace my old 350A.
OK, what are the differences between the new bc355c and the older bc350c besides,
More channels
Ability to turn on multiple services
Temporary Lockout
Close Call with DND

Does the older bc350c have a different display?
and why do places like amazon want to charge more for the bc350c over the newer bc355c?
is the older 350c more desirable?

Good question...and I can't think of a valid reason to get the bc350C instead of the bc355c.. The 355c has a LOT more features, more stored channels, is more flexible in terms of being able to set it up to your liking....plus...the Close Call...is a very neat feature..! The ability to link different scan banks with just a few button presses is great, especially if you are travelling and just want to scan for anything in the area.

I have one of these in my van along with a BCT-8 and a BR330T...so the 355c makes a great addition to the others...allowing me to scan gobs of unknown freqs with little strain. If you have the 355c loaded with 300 of your favorite freqs...and then scan all the banks that are available, you will be scanning something close to 4000 channels in each full pass...!!!

Wow, thanks ksKarma. I just ordered me a new 355c for $87.24 free shipping, can't wait for it to get here.
I had a 350a back in the day and gave it away in '03 and missed it and wanted to get a replacement. I have been tugging between the 355c and a bct8 and went for the 355c, although I really liked the bct8 and it had the bigger looks i wanted, but it is discontinued by uniden and replaced by the bc15, so I just went with the newer model and cheaper, good for me at the moment, i can upgrade later.

Hey kskarma, what do you think of the bct8's unidendirect has as like new for $129.00 ?
I've heard or read good stuff about this scanner, as long as it doesn't have the nascar logo on it. nascar logo radios = problems?
I wouldn't mind having the 355c in the car and the bct8 at home

Just my opinion....BCT-8..

What do I think of the BCT-8..? I guess the fact that I own 3 of them should say something!! The first one I bought new, the last two from eBay sellers. I use one in my van..it has a good bright easy-to-read display and it only takes a few button presses to change any of the settings...so I don't get distraced from my driving... The "State" scanning feature is handy so that during a vacation, you can just select the state you are in and not have to worry about trying to enter some frequency list. It has a good audio amplifier so when in the car you can turn it up to overcome the road or traffic noise very easily.

There is absolutely nothing functional wrong with the NASCAR logo radios...I have a BR330T which also has this logo... Many people just object to this additional advertising on the radio...some paint over it or cover it with black tape...and...as you apparently have heard, some just refuse to buy any Bearcat models because of this...but...again...there is NO problem with the actual scanner.. I am not a NASCAR fan at all, but it's very easy for me to overlook that small logo on the scanners...in fact, just now, I looked at my BCT-8 and it took a few seconds before I even could locate it....!

So, to wrap it up, I think that is a good price for one that comes from Bearcat...as I recall, I gave in the neighborhood of $80 for mine from eBay.

An additional note...I see that someone responded to your other thread by saying, "If 100 channels are enough for you, the 355C will be fine." Actually, you can store 300 of your own favorite channels in the 3 separate banks. There is one 100 channel bank with each of the Police/Fire/Emerg and the Air/Mrn groups as well as 100 channels in the Private bank... Since you said you live in a a smaller town, I think you will find this a perfectly adequate number of options. The BCT-8 can store 250 channels, but in a different arrangement...5 groups of 50 channels...both work out fine...

Hope this helps...
