Hope someone out there can point me in the right direction with this thing.
I just bought a BC370CRS on eBay and it's a beautiful unit. Problem is when I turn it on I get nothing but static. I'm by no means a "newb" with this stuff, I've been scanning and using two-way radio both as a hobby and professional for 25 years. Naturally, my first instinct was to turn "up" the squelch knob to silence the static. Much to my surprise, the squelch knob had no effect.
The unit does work when there is an active transmission - the static is replaced with the transmission but then it goes right back to what I equate to open squelch, and it won't scan - it just sticks on whatever frequency you move it to and fires open squelch at me. The AM/FM and Weather band receives fine, but I assume that's because with those there is always a signal, just like on a fire frequency when there is an active transmission.
As I said, when an active transmission comes through it's crystal clear. Just when there's no active transmissions it's blaring static. It has brand new back up batteries, I have moved unit to multiple locations, removed and reattached the antenna, manipulated all buttons and knobs. Short of opening the thing up and looking for God know what, I am at a loss. I am fearing the worst that some resistor or pot or some technical soldered on piece went bad in the squelch circuit.
Now I have to try to get my money back, unless you guys can help me.
Any ideas? Thanks.
