Hello everyone,

I keep seeing an asterisk (*) located on the display in both the system and group banks while having the scanner in the hold position and scrolling thru the channels. How do i convert the the asterisks to a numerical representation. I am using the BCD396T UASD software to program the scanner. I have also checked both the scanner and the software for any locked out channels but they are unlocked. However while in scan mode the system and group act like they are locked out because they will not be scanned. Please If anyone can give me a solution to this problem. Would be a great "HELP". THANKS rjskup

Do you have any systems that are open and scanning right now? For instance, mine displays systems 1*345678 for all my systems. If you notice, system number 2 is replaced with an asterisk. I DO HAVE a system programmed under system qk 2 but it is CLOSED at the moment, hence the asterisk. 2 is shown, system number 2 is OPEN, * is shown, system number 2 is CLOSED.
Common sense...aisle 7.....
And it is the same above for groups. To toggle systems on or off, press the system's qk#. To toggle groups on or off, HOLD Function and scroll to the system the group is in and press the group qk# that is assigned to the group.
Would you like for me to carry your bags to your car.......

Thank you for help !!!!

hello scanrrman,

I followed your advise by experimenting using my BCD996T scanner and it answered my questions. However when using the bearcat 396T software from uniden the software will add the the closed quick key channels when downloading the information to the BC 396T scanner. I do not know why this happens never had this problem with arc butel BC 996T software. I re installed the bearcat 396T uasd software and it seems to have resolved it self at the time being. Everything is working properly if this happens again i will have to manually change the quick keys every time i add a new system and group to the scanner. Thank you again RJSKUP

Yes, you are right with your recent analysis. When uploading systems to the 396 via Arc396, it will unlock all the systems in the radio. This is an undocumented but already publicized bug in Arc; although, I'm sure Butel would like to call it something other than a "bug" to qualify their "you get what you pay for" statement when the 396 came out and included the FREE UASD software.

In UASD, open the configuration you are sending to the scanner and go to the "Quick Keys" tab. This page lets you set the SQK and GQK status that will take affect upon upload. It sounds like you have some of the SQK's flagged to be disabled in the software.

Yes you are correct !!!

Hello upman,

I did not understand the quick key tabs on the uasd software until you pointed it out on your reply. Yes i notice that there were a couple of systems that were disabled on the list. Will check this everytime uploading to scanner. Thank you RJSKUP
