Hi there. It depends where you are.
If you are in the GTA you can listen to the Go system, the Toronto Public Safety system has some P25. Guelph and the Niagara Region has some digital comms as well, pointed out by Saint recently here.

I love my 396. I have probably 80 system in here and have used up less than a third of the memory.
With software it is a breeze to program, it fits in to a shirt pocket & runs on 3 regular batteries, not a pack.

Negatives: Difference between P25 and analog, especially on Fleetnet can be hard (volume wise) does not come with a good antenna for Air or Fleetnet IMO.

In all I have really no regrets, really worth it.

It should be a good choice for you. Especially being near Michigan, you should be able to get Detroit and Wayne Co. on the MPSCS when your in Windsor. And there has been talk of Windsor TRS switching to some P25 for PD, so if they do switch you'll be ready. And you'll be able to pick up Amhurstburg and Leamington PD's.

I'm not really big on scanner products as I find them to typically be of very poor design and ruggedness. However, the 396 is a definate exception. While it's no Motorola, it performs very well considering what it is being asked to do. It's not quite like carrying a brick (MPA or HT600) but it is fairly durable considering it's size. Personally I'd be a lot more at ease if it were in some kind of case as I don't think the housing could survive more than a small drop onto the floor. It'd sure be nice if they made scanners with a decent metal or rugged plastic like what commercial gear is built out of. At the very least, have a metal frame inside the plastic so a fall would only do cosmetic damage.

But, buy one for sure. You won't regret it. As someone else said, it's the best scanner out there right now (save for the 996). If I had the $$ laying around, I'd pick one up in a heart beat.

Hello Again

Do you know if there is a online owner manual available for this scanner.

Thanks
