Well, according to Google this subject has been on RR before, but, must have been archived. Anyway, I acquired a Uniden Bearcat BC700A at a yardsale for $5. Doesn't trunk but picks up many bands including the 800's. Yes, it's a bit klugy to program which makes the periodic "Memory Loss" message less-than-welcome. The battery has been kept fresh, does anyone have any thoughts as-to what's up?
The only other Google hits on other models indicate solder problems throughout the chasis.
Thanks all.

That was going to be my answer until I read your last sentence - an intermittent connection somewhere.

Use standard "old radio" techniques here - replace any paper capacitors that look dried out, touch all solder joints to reflow them, clean everything, at least with canned air.

Sounds like a good start.
Gotta ask....paper resistors, in these?
I'm not challenging you, I never looked, did they use them in scanners like these?
