Can anyone help or offer any suggestions? I have a BC760XLT that has worked perfect for years in my home. I moved it into my truck last week and tonight the backlight no longer comes on. I can read the screen but the light no longer works. The SCAN, MAN, PRI, HOLD and Main knob still illuminate. Is there a reset on this scanner? Did I turn off the screen light somehow? Can I get a new light?

Thanks

Return all companies! It was the bulb that burned out. It is wrapped in an orange rubber filter. The bulb at Radio Shack cost me $1.49 plus tax! It should be good for another decade.

RS made a bit of money and you're happy, everybody wins! BTW I have a PRO-2026, more or less the same except for CTCSS and KB lighting. What was the RS part number and/or specs of the bulb (for when mine goes...)?

Uniden had no info on line for my scanner so I looked up the Pro-2026 on Radio Shacks web site. I was lucky enough to get the part number of the bulb (lamp). The part number of the RS lamp must be an old, out of date number because I couldn’t locate it. It did say the lamp was 8 volts though. Anyway, I took a ride to my local RS and here is what I purchased. Mini Lamp, with 1 3/4" hookup leads, 6 volts, 25mA. Part # 272-1140 I cut the old lamp from the wires that were attached to the board and soldered the new lamp and wires on. It looks as good as new!

The proper replacement part is 272-1092. The 6 volt bulb you used will burn out prematurely, the 12 volt -1092 will last forever. I've done this repair not only for the display light, but for the illuination for the SCAN, MAN, PRI, and HOLD buttons.

You can go here, http://repairfaq.ece.drexel.edu/REPAIR/F_BC_Repair.html
and scroll down almost to the bottom to see what I'm talking about.

The lighted bottons use a "grain of wheat" lamp and the backlight uses a larger, different lamp. The 6 volt lamp I used looks good as new. How long will this 6 volt lamp last?

I don't know how long it will last, but it won't be as long as an 8 volt or 12 volt would last. I replaced the back light bulb as well, but I'm not sure what P/N I used. I'm not even sure that I got it from RS.

I had the same problem with a Yaesu FT2500M. One side of the display light went out. I only replaced the burned out bulb, so within a short time the other side went out. So the next time I pulled it apart, I replaced every bulb on the head whether they needed it or not. Worked great until I sold it.
