Anyone here besides me still using the BC785D? Just curious to see how other ones perform on conventional-but mainly I want to see if there's still some running out there.

I have 2 of them (without digital card) and they are still going strong. I prefer them to my newer radios for conventional. They have a nice solid feel. I'd love to see a digital model with the same warm glowing display screen and great speaker!

785

Just picked up a 2nd 785, use'em both for milcom. The 785 blows my GRE-600 away on Civ & Milcomm, there great scanners for conventional freqs.

My babies. Just picked up the 780XLT a couple weeks ago, still need to get a power adapter for her and the 785D. But all three receive great, have a nice warm display and clear crisp audio.

Have two in service around the clock and one spare. Have a 780 in reserve, like the 785 better. Use them in conventional monitoring. Love the sound. Very sensitive and no overloading. My idea of a tough radio.

Well it's nice to see I'm not the lone ranger here. I wasn't happy with its conventional side until I discovered it was in attenuater mode. Once I turned it off the range improved dramatically. Unfortunately I don't get jack in this region betwen 250-400. I even tried 5khz spacing and nothing. I assume it's the lack of activity here and not that the radio is deaf there. I love my 785 too. I feel it's still valid (even though Uniden has no reference on it here) and I too feel it is bulletproof. Beautiful audio especially in trunking mode (I run it through an old Realistic SP150 communications speaker) and it has that 'station' sound to it:)

I have the 780 and the 785 with card and purchased them new, and never had a problem with either, they are work horses. Actually the 785 does very well on the digital channels we can receive here.

You have GOT to be kidding! Looking at the following Yahoo group there ought to be a ton of stuff to hear, assuming you have something like a discone mounted outside nice and high.

Thanks Mike-it's just that I have done..seriously..a LOT of random searching on these frequencies since like 2004 when I got the 785D and came across nothing. I appreciate your link though and will get in there maybe my timing IS that bad??olol

My BC785D has been on 24/7 for years now. Right now its tasked to the SD Feed i provide for RR, the SD Statewide P25. Works very very good for that use.

It got bumped off the MN feed in favor of a BC796D that i picked up so i could start listening to ARMER as it comes into my county, the 796 is rebanded for 800.

I run two 780's and two 796D's as part of my collection. I like the displays on the 780 better than the 796. I always wondered why they changed them. They are work horses for sure, never a major problem with any of them, just some broken knobs.

I've heard people talk about broken knobs on the 780/796's? How does this happen?
I can't imagine how mine would break.

My 785D w/o digital card has been running flawlessly since I bought it new. No need for digital card right now as Montana is just now coming on line with the statewide P25 system. My 996XT picks up the slack when it comes to digital systems but can't beat the 785D for sound.

My guess... Wear... Since you have to push the knob in for selecting menus?

go 785Ds!! I had no idea they were so prevalent here. We're a fortunate group to own this unit-I think Uniden did a good job on this one. Too bad they rushed to replace it-IMO it keeps up with the new stuff just fine (he said until SF switched to 700mhz):D

I bought my 785 when they were first introdouced.
First without the card, then purchasing the card six months later.
Served me well until I picked-up the xt last year.
Give it to my nephew whose just getting into the hobby,
he's quite pleased with it and it's still going strong.
Did briefly have a 796 as well, found 785 worked better on our
trunk system than the 796.
It's unfortunate that it'll become obsolete when the new 700Mhz
inter-provincal trunk system goes on line in the Maritimes.
