Hello,

Re all the posts on adding foil to the foam on the battery door of a 436:

Some posters mentioned that there are video,s or pix, on how they did it.
On You Tube ?

Where can I locate them, please ?

Sure is surprising that everyone, I think, who noticed an improvement
with the foil addition found better results with the Al rather than with the Cu.
The conductivity of the Cu being so much higher than AL, hard to understand; would
certainly expect the Cu to be better.

The only parameter I can think of for the AL which might be meaningful is that the
AL probably has greater eddy-current losses.
Anyone have any theories on this ?

BTW: other than the beeping when the batteries are truly run down, and indicator as to
what the present state of their charge (in the unit) might be ?

It's funny, but yes, night and day difference. Recently took the aluminum foil out, forgot to put it back in, scanner was receiving only about 30% of traffic on a 407 mhz P25 P1 system 10 miles away. RTL dongles were beating it pretty good. Put the foil back in and 436 now catches everything the dongles receive plus about 10% more.

I was missing a lot of the DMR traffic on the 400 mhz band as well, that all came back with the replacement of the foil.

AL Vs. Cu. ?

Hi

Any theories from you EE's out there as why AL
seems better than Cu ?

And why multiple layers ?
Even a single very thin layer should be more than
thick enough to carry any current.
