Does Uniden offer a longer USB charging cable for the BCD325P2? The stock one appears to be about 43 inches long.

The power adapters for my other Uniden scanners are all 72 inches long.

If not, could this USB charging cable be the same as something a cell phone may use that comes in a longer length?

gschmitz , that is what I am looking for. Just wanted to make sure using a cable like that would be safe for the scanner.

USB stands for "universal serial bus". They have been implemented to be used universally, regardless of product.

In practice, there have been some variation in quality of them, and some are only capable of transferring data or charging. As long as you have a USB cable that is capable of both of decent quality, you will be fine whatever you use it on.

I have used a plain old USB extension cable plugged into the OEM cable on both my 436 and my GRE800 types without any issues.

Pretty much any USB cable in good working condition will allow you to charge the batteries internally in the 325. I wouldn't do that though as the internal charger is crap. If you want the cable for charging purposes, then you are better off buying an external battery charger and good batteries.

Pretty much any USB cable in good working condition will allow you to power the 325 too. However, be aware that the Uniden cable has a filter built into it and that might be necessary if you get unwanted noises from other electronic equipment. Otherwise any good USB cable will power the scanner, but it might be noisy if other equipment causes issues because most of the 3rd party USB cables lack that filtering capability.

I ordered the cable that gschmitz recommended. I will advise once I receive it on its performance but I am sure it will be fine based on his experience.

I do have an external battery charger that I can use to charge the 2 AA batteries.

Right now I have been testing the internal charger on the unit itself to see how it performs with the charging. I am getting 8 hours of service from the batteries with the unit's charging system right now.

The 325's internal battery charger is a trickle charger and has NO smart charging technology built in. It will simply charge for a set amount of time then stop charging. It cannot condition the batteries, and it can take up to 14 hour to charge them. New batteries do fair with the internal chaging for a while, but they will eventually begin to wear down and eventually not hold a charge very long. That is why it is better to use an external battery charger with smart technology that can charge the batteries in just a few hours plus it conditions the batteries so that they get a full charge and last longer. By last longer I mean the batteries life expectancy will last longer before you have to throw them away. They should also hold a charge longer due to the smart technology of slowing down the charge process near the end of the charge cycle.
