Hi.. I have a BCD396T. Do I need a firmware update to receive APCO 25? I’m kind of fairly new to the APCO system. Thank you.

The BCD396T will receive APCO 25 by default. It will not do Phase 2 and will not reliably do simulcast.

The latest firmware for the BCD396T is 3.02.02. There are no upgrade keys for this scanner. My 396t does a great job on the Michigan MPSCS Simulcast systems listen to both the Wayne county simulcast and Detroit simulcast systems every day.

I also have the 396T - does fairly well on the MOSWIN system (supposed to be a Type 2 system but not many sites are full Type 2 yet). My SDS200 does do better, but at a cost : )

type 2 is one thing phase 2 is something else.

I'm running software version 3.02.02 and decodes P25 phase 1 just fine on the New Bedford MA and Dartmouth MA

systems. It also works great on the MA State Police Smart (analog) trunk system.

If you are not running the latest firmware, o would do it. The last upgrade seemed to make my "t" decode digital a little smoother.

Other than that, the radio will listen to phase 1 P25 out of the box. It will not decode phase 2.

Depends on the systems you listen to, and where you are in relation to towers how well it will handle simulcast. My experience is not good.
