I don't have a Silverado - I'm with the enemy (Ford F150) but I have found the ProClip dash mount to be very effective and useful.
ProClip shows six different mounts for your vintage of truck, none of which exactly end up where you have planned. Keep in mind what I linked to is just the kit for mounting to the dash - you then add an actual cradle or mount kit to the front of that.
What I did on mine was take a mic hang-up clip like for a CB or professional two-way radio, and mount that on the face of the dash mount. Then the belt clip pin for the 436 just sits in that slot. Of course the mic hang-up clip should be one of the sturdier, well-built ones, not the flimsy metal that looks like the tines of a fork. I actually used a genuine Motorola clip because I had a handful lying around from converting my agency's fire trucks to magnetic mic holders.
That looks PERFECT and clips right into the dash in a perfect spot. Mounting anything above that in Jersey (at least in my township), they give you a hard time about blocking your view and easily hand out tickets. I think i'm going to give the Proclip a try. I also have a couple of mic holders laying around.
MX4JCW....that Maxx Mount looks good too but I am weary about suction cup mounts to a non smooth dash. Every time I would hit a bump, I would probably wince and wait for it to fall. Glad it works for you though.
What kind of mount

I REALLY appreciate all of the suggestions.
Ok....now that I am narrowing my mount options for the scanner, I am starting to dig into info on a good all around antenna to mount (probably magnet). The system that I mainly listen to here in Jersey is the Burlington County Public Safety (In the 500 range) and sometimes the Ocean County one. However, I dig listening to systems in the 800 range as well. Is there a good combo package out there that includes antenna, mount, cable and connector (BMC or SMA)?
I have used this antenna from Scanner Master for years. I have one with BNC on it for my home station (too lazy/cheap to put up an outdoor antenna on my crappy falling-apart roof in constantly high winds), had one in SMA on my older car for the HP1. I moved to a permanent fender mount with my truck and the 436, but I still have two more of these in SMA format for using with RTL-SDR sticks. Coverage is great across the bands and the magnet is plenty strong.
Not that I can recall. The one at home (which is admittedly BNC) stays connected all the time, so it doesn't get a chance to be fiddled with. The ones for my SDR sticks get disconnected and reconnected fairly often, and don't give me any grief.
