This seems to be a problem discussed many times over, and I have spent the last two hours researching this issue and trying some of the suggested fixes.

ProScan, my BCD436HP and Windows 10 had been playing nice together - no issues. Then I sent my radio to Uniden for the Repair Campaign to address the date/clock issue. I received the radio back today and WHAM. I can't get the radio and ProScan to connect in USB mass storage mode.

I turned off the laptop and restarted.
I rebooted the computer
In Windows Device Manager I uninstalled the device and allowed to reinstall when I reconnected the radio
I searched Uniden site and elsewhere for an updated driver (currently using USBSTOR.SYS)

I don't know if this is relevant, but I am able to connect to Sentinel in usb mass storage mode.

Does anyone have any new fixes/resolutions for this problem?

Mass storage just uses the microsoft mass storage driver...any updated one would have to come from them (but pretty mature interface, updates not likely).

Very odd that Sentinel can see it in mass storage but ProScan can't. It should just look like any other external drive.

orgullodemexico,
Your email sounded like you were talking about ProScan not communicating with the scanner in Serial Port mode. I see here you are talking about Mass Storage mode. I haven't heard of this type of problem before so can you double check that Sentinel works and ProScan does not.
Also check if the Win File Explorer shows the scanner SD as a "USB Drive".

{edit{ Also check the scanner SD drive root directory is named "BCDx36HP"

Sorry for the confusion. Sentinel does communicate with the radio in USB mass storage and I was able to read/write to the scanner with no problem.

ProScan stopped working. But now ProScan is going to make me look like an idiot

I just connected my radio to the laptop - and there is a connection.

The connection appears under Device Manager ==> Ports (which didn't even appear before) ==> USB serial device (COM9)

I give up. In the interim, I removed the SD card from the radio and inserted it in the laptop's SD reader.

Go back and manually set the COM PORT for the scanner in Proscan, I found half the time proscan wont find it unless you set it manually.

The scanner has two different modes.

1 USB mass storage mode. The scanner is simply a very expensive card reader. No drivers required, support is built into Windows since USB became standard. This mode is used by sentinel. If you choose to, you could remove the sd card from the scanner and use a $6 usb card reader and sentinel wouldn't know the difference.

2 serial mode, data moves to and from computer. There is a virtual com port visible in device manager while connected in this mode. Proprietary drivers MIGHT be needed. Sentinel does not use this mode.

These two modes cannot be used simultaneously.

I have not used Pro Scan in a while, I think it uses both modes. Knowing which mode is in use and which mode of operation is required for the task at hand is a fundamental to success.

This applies to any scanner that uses Sentinel and Windows XP to current.

Why would you use a COM port for Mass Storage Mode?
