Can this scanner be programmed normally?

In other words, can I just program the frequencies and the one trunk system I listen to without having all the other zip code located frequencies clogging up the scanner?

If so, is there other software besides Sentinel?

I'm considering purchasing this unit so I can listen to a P25 Phase II 7/8oo system, in addition to about 75 analog/NXDN channels.

Thanks.

Please allow me to direct you to the easier to read manual which explains in great detail how to program favorites lists

Yes, see third party software section on the 436 & 536HP FAQ page for a list. With that said, a premium subscription to Radioreference is needed for RR database imports into these apps

Yep. I've never once used the database on mine. I don't even know what version it's at.

ProScan is the go-to for all Uniden scanners for me. One version that encompasses a ton of models, has logging, bunch of recording stuff, and works for manual programming really well. You can even download it right now and run the 30 day trial to see how it all works. (Full featured, nothing held back).

I feel like an ad for it but, the software is really great and saves me a ton of time and headaches for programming various different models. Well worth the money and Bob provides excellent service on the forums here (or by email), so I'm always happy to support and promote it.

Sentinel does its job but this does it in about 1/10th the number of clicks I find.

Sentinel will do everything you want for programming and is free and using location controls or the database is not "clogging up the scanner".
If you choose to program exactly and only what you want the database won't effect anything you simply don't use it.

Is there a way for Sentinel to filter out the encrypted channels? Proscan has that option when importing from RR.
Encrypted channels slow the scan rate down as the 436 momentarily pauses on them.

Simply hold on the channel and press avoid twice to permanently avoid, or set avoid in Sentinel on the TG.

OK Thanks. So in Sentinel it has to be done manually, not automatically like Proscan. In Sentinel, there is no indication whether a TG is encrypted, so I guess importing RR with Proscan is the best way to go.

Identify the E talkgroups/frequencies and either don’t load them or delete them. You can determine the E’s by visiting Radioreference.com.

Thanks everyone.

I'm pulling the trigger on the scanner, and will download and purchase ProScan. I found Sentinel cumbersome, and I really don't have a bunch of time to try and master it right now.

I don't need to import from the RR database. I have my own database. (Public safety radio tech here), so I will go with that for now. I'm mainly monitoring systems and frequencies of the agencies we take care of, so I don't need any of the 'fluff'.

I have monitored that area with a scanner. Tell me the county where you are at and I will help you. I have the same radio.
Make sure you have all of the "service types" checked. I programmed someone's radio in Joplin for them.
It took me a long time to master this memory architecture. Let me know if you need some help.

I re-upped my premium subscription and imported from the RR database to ProScan, and I'm editing it to fit what I need.

The BCD436HP arrives today.

Thanks for the offer. Much appreciated. I'll let you know if I need some help after I give it a try on my own.
