Can the recordings on the BCD436HP be listen to later? The online Manual says no. But I read elsewhere (Marks scanners website) you can. Was that changed in a firmware update (hopefully)?

Yes. On the scanner itself:
Press MENU
Scroll to Settings > Replay Options > Review Recordings
Scroll to file of choice > Play Session

In Sentinel:

Discovery Log Viewer Allows you to view Discovery logs in the Sentinel software.
Plug the scanner into your computer using the supplied USB cable and select Mass Storage.
From the Menu bar select Tools > Discovery Log Viewer...
Click on the Import Discover Log button
read%20from.jpg
in the log viewer window.
Type a Name for the collection and check Move from HP-1 if you don't want to leave a copy on the microSD card and click OK.
Expand the collection in the left pane and click a run to view.
The Options button
options.jpg
will let you change the ID format and Location format. The drop-down menu will let you select Summary or Detailed information.
Select a recording and press the play
play.jpg
button to listen.

Uniden uses standard wav file format for their recordings that can be listen to with any media device that can handle that audio type. To see the text info what TG and channel it is you'll need a program that can read the meta data like some music players. I believe scanner programs like ARC536 and ProScan can also do that and also the UniversalScannerAudioPlayer by deim here in the RR forum.

There are two somewhat similar/related functions - Replay and Record.

The Replay Function allows you to hear the last few transmissions heard. You can replay these recordings immediately, but they are not available for future listening

The Record Function will record all transmissions heard so you can listen to them later. These recording sessions are saved and can be replayed on demand

You must start a Recording Session in order to save recordings for listening later.

OK, now the text make sense! I apologize for overlooking the meaning. I appreciate your response!

Also, The RECORD FUNCTION will back up and begin recording the time amount you have set in your REPLAY DURATION and begin recording. Say you hear something and REALLY wish you had it recorded, if it has not been over that amount of time in your Replay Duration it can be recorded. To set your Replay Duration: Menu>Settings>Replay Options>Set Replay Duration>pick how many seconds you wish to record...30 seconds to 240 seconds (3 minutes). The RECORD function is a GREAT option! If you don't try these extra options on your scanners you won't ever realize the full potential of your scanner. Yes, there is a little wear and tear on your sd card but buy your sd cards online and keep a back-up or know your computer has the Sentinel programming,

You don't have to worry about wear and tear on the SD card. Audio files are recorded at a 128kilo bit per second rate. 8 bits are one byte. The most common SD card size are 32 giga byte. Each write will advance to the next memory cell until it reaches the end of the 32GB and then starts over again. That's one write cycle that will take 23 days of 24/7 continuous recording. You will have used 16 write cycles in one year. Then look at what the SD cards manufacture guarantee for their minimum amount of write cycles or number of years.
