I recently programmed my bcd536 hp worth radiorefernce. I programmed Mass State Police, Barnstable county as well as Plymouth counties. I also programmed the Coast Guard as well as other favorites. The problem I am having is the CG and other favorites are not scanning and I am not receiving transmissions. Can anybody help me. Thanks

I assume you mean using the library built into Sentinel and the radio/SD card... can you be more specific on how you did your programming?

Have you checked the "SERVices" settings?

Start by making sure your favorite list is actively being scanned. In Sentinel, ensure Download and Monitor are both ON. If Download is off, the list will not be copied to the scanner, and there is no way to scan it.

Make sure your Service Types are turned on.

Make sure your location is set correctly. Manually entering your GPS coordinates is better than entering a ZIP code, because you may live miles away from the geographic center of the zip code area.

Turn on the full database and see if you get any traffic scanning that way. If you do, then you probably screwed up something in your favorite lists. The most common error is deleting the broadcast sites for a trunked system, which makes it impossible for the scanner to hear the system.

Install and run Sentinel as administrator to fix most issues. You need Sentinel to update the database and firmware.

If you could attach your programming file (you may have to zip it) to a message, we can see if anything jumps out.

So if I program via ARC, I don't have to rely on just the zip code programming, correct? I want to set up specific systems for multiple areas then just quick key them when.i go through that area. Sort of like I did with my old 996xt. Does that make sense?

Does not matter whether you use ARC or not. For that matter, the same applies to ProScan and Sentinel. You can create your favorites lists in either of them as well.

Instead of using the main database and your zip code, just create Favorites lists for each specific area. If doing ten or less lists, you can toggle them on or off with a single number (0 through 9). If you have more than ten, then you preface any two digit Favorites list quick key selection by pressing the "." (decimal, or 'No') key. That's what I do most of the time, I have lists for my main metro area, as well as others tailored with systems for a more regional trip. I've entered the systems that I know are monitorable in each of those areas.

For a longer trip, though, such as one across several states, you're better off using a GPS and the main database.

Not really, when you can use GPS to turn systems on and off without having to constantly press buttons while driving. It's an unnecessary inconvenience, and a driving hazard as well.

Unfortunately, I don't want to get stuck listening to tons of useless transmissions that don't interest me. I like to customize what I want and where.

You can scan favorite lists using GPS if you enable Location Control in the favorite list. If the full database is off, only items in the active favorite list(s) in range will be scanned. If you don't put the "useless" stuff in a favorite list, it will never be scanned.

Mobile scanning with GPS is the monitoring version of an orgasm. If you've never done it, you don't know what you're missing.

My rechargeable GPS is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I need to go buy some cigarettes. :)
