Would a bcd536hp from 2015-serial number had Z5- like new never used be a good unit or would a later year be better?
But what's the real time clock issue and how can I tell if I have it or not?
If upon every boot it tells you it’s lost the clock, you have that issue. But if you aren’t recording, it doesn’t matter.
Uniden ran a repair campaign for a few years to fix the issue but it’s been several years since that ceased.
As Enoji has already noted, if your scanner still had the RTC battery charge issue, you would be seeing the nag to set the clock when you booted the scanner up. The display fading, that also affected some of these same units, likely would have surfaced by now for you as well, if it either had not been previously fixed.I have 3 used 536s, 2 are earlier models. None have any type of display issues. But what's the real time clock issue and how can I tell if I have it or not? They are both in different vehicles and I don't record with either. Thanks
The 'repair campaign' was announced in October of 2015. Since Uniden determined what the problem was, and set up a process on getting units repaired by this time, it stands to reason that corrective measures were probably put in place for the assembly process so that newly manufactured units did not go out the door with a ticking failure 'bomb' in place. So, at some point, earlier than the start of the repair event, (October 2015), new 2015 scanners coming off the line would have already had whatever parts needed already installed. The 2015 production unit you have may well have been assembled with the updated parts, rather than waiting for someone to have sent it in for repair.Uniden ran a repair campaign for a few years to fix the issue but it’s been several years since that ceased.
Both my first 436HP, as well as my 536HP, were 'initial production' units. The original 536 had been swapped by Uniden because of the background buzz issue. Then, when the RTC & display campaign came out, both the 436HP and 536HP were sent in.And just to add to @hiegtx post...
My 436 (From above post) was manufactured in 2014...
Same here... My SDS100 has been humming right along 24/7 with no issues at all...Even though my SDS100 was also an initial production unit, I never had the 'solder joint' issue that affected a number of others. Pure luck, on my part.
