In the "easier to read" Sentinel manual, in the section about editing a profile, it states:

"To include any Close Call hits that have been found with Close Call Priority or DND, clear the Avoid for the "Hits with Scan" Department. You will see "Close Call Hits" in the display when the Department is scanned if any hits have been received."

Where is this checkbox? I've had this radio for sixteen months and can't find it anywhere. I presume I have to have "Search with scan" checked on the "Scan selection" tab, and there are no avoids set on the "Search/Close Call" tab. What'd I miss?

In the scanner:
MENU
CLOSE CALL
HITS WITH SCAN
SET AVOID
STOP AVOIDING

In Sentinel:
EDIT
PROFILE
(scan selection tab)
(check Monitor Search With Scan checkbox)
OPTIONS button (right beside the above)
(beside Close Call Hits select the "-" option as opposed to AVOID)

Save the profile, and write to the scanner.

Oops, ignore last message. Somehow the bottom half got cut off and I missed the Sentinel part of the rply. Then I tried to delete my message but didn't see it available.

What does the "Avoid" checkbox at the very top of that window do?

Search with Scan is treated like a Favorites List and each search like a Department.
The Monitor Search With Scan checkbox enables Search w/Scan (like in 'Select Lists to Monitor').
The 'Avoid' checkbox sets the Avoid (like in System Avoid). The Avoids for each search are like Department Avoids.

So since I have a favorites list with one "system" in it (which consists of a whole lot of conventional frequencies that I want to treat as one system), that checkbox will disable that one system, and if there were more than one, there'd be one for each system in the favorites list? It's either that, or my screenreader is playing up on me and I'm not detecting everything that's in this window.

Search with Scan is like a different FL and has nothing to do with any other FL. You select FL's to monitor down below (in the Sentinel 'Scan Selection' tab), there are no checkboxes for those.

I know I sound like I'm being obtuse, and this is something that sounds like it should be intuitively obvious, but really I think the problem is more on my screenreader's end than mine ( :) ). Let me get down to specific cases and ask, if that avoid checkbox is checked at the top of the Options screen, what behavior is affected? What gets avoided? While mostly very good (in my opinion, anyway), Sentinel is sometimes a bit weird in identifying what controls afect what features or capabilities of the radio, and that, too, may be part of the source of my confusion.

If checked, it will enable the Search With Scan features. That includes your Custom Searche and Close Call Hits scanning. If not checked, none of these will be included when scanning.

If the Avoid checkbox is checked, all search ranges and the Hits with Scan department are Avoided so even if you check the 'Monitor Search with Scan' checkbox, none of the searches will run (in scan mode).

Correction to my post (actually a correction to my understanding of the question):

If checked, the AVOID box will disable the Search With Scan features. That includes your Custom Search and Close Call Hits scanning. If not checked, these will be included when scanning.

My post above was talking about the Monitor with Scan checkbox.

Ah, makes 101% sense now. How silly of them to offer that, as one could just set all eleven rows in that table to "avoid". Thanks for bearing with me on this. It all appears to be happening as it should.

Search with Scan Question

I’m having a problem getting the search with scan function working. I watched a video on how to do this but I can’t seem to get it to function. In the menu I go to Set Scan Selection then Select Lists to Monitor then make sure Search with Scan is on. It then only searches the favorites I have turned on. Any other setting I should be checking??

Have you enabled any Search ranges to search?
Thanks for the response. I did get the scan feature to work but to be honest I’m not sure what I did to do so.. Its searching bands that I don’t really want to search. Do I enable search ranges in Sentinel or through the menu options in the radio or both?

Enable/disable the Search slots via the SEARCH options. This could be done on Sentinel or in the scanner itself.

Recently (Thursday) I wanted to search two segments, so I enabled both of those slots and disabled the others.
