I recently updated the firmware in my scanner and had not used it in awhile before that. Made no backup because I was doing something else at the same time and i guess clicked past it. :( After the upgrade the speaker and front audio jack don't receive sound. Everything else works and I can hear through the ext speaker jack in the back. has this happened to anyone else or do you think it is an unrelated problem?

there was a previous documented problem with the headphone jack becoming STUCK to the IN position which silences the speaker. But id think in that case the headphone jack would still work ehrn plugged in. so not 100% sure about the case u mention

I just checked the front jack and it is working now but still no speaker. How did they remedy the stuck IN problem? Thanks in advance.

Try a few drops of contact cleaner on the end of the plug and plug it in-and-out a few times, this may free it up. Otherwise the jack will need to be replaced, or you could use an external speaker full-time.

The BCD996T and BCT15's were notorious for this problem.

This was a hardware issue with the jack on the 996T & 15. It was corrected on all future models.
I have a 15 and a 15X and you can see the difference in the quality of the jacks from the outside.
I use external speakers on both, using the rear jacks, and haven't had any problems.
