I just downloaded the BCD996T_UASD_v1.0.12.0.exe software (Advanced Scanner Director) off the Uniden website and after completing the intall process and unlocking the full version I'm unable to view any of the Help contents. I'm receiving an error message as follows (Cannot Open the file:mk:mad:MSITStore:C\Program Files\Uniden\BCD996T_UASD\BCD996T UASD Help.chm.) I also noticed when I open my BCD396T Advanced Scanner Director I can't access the Help contents. In addition I removed my first install and started fresh...same issue. Please advise.

Not to hijack your thread but rather than start a new one....

I have a BC15 that I am programming...I have used the UASD software and downloaded it according to unidens website. I have the 996 software on the same computer and it is working fine. SO today I programmed everything in that I wanted and would'nt you know it....when I went to upload it to the scanner, it said that it was in DEMO mode...what gives???

Can anyone help us with our issues??(btw...I still am not a fan of this uniden software)

Thanks

The software for the digital scanners (396 & 996) is free. For the non-digitals, such as the BCT-15, BC246T, BR330T, you have to purchase a software key (I believe $29.95). Rather than do that, you might look at ScanControl. as it supports most all current Uniden models in one package. It will also import the *.usd files or *.csv files. You could also "read" your 996. then export a "dax" file (I think that's what ScanControl named it; I'm not in it right now) of one or more system, then import it back into the program & load onto the BCT-15.

I'm not having a problem on either pc, with either the 396, or 996, UASD programs or help files. Wonder if your download had a defect in it, or something in your system settings (for the help file).
Go into Windows Explorer.
Select Tools
Then Folder Options
Select the File Types tab
Scroll down till you see the CHM extension.
See what program it shows your system is trying to use. Mine says "Microsoft® HTML Help Exe". See the screenshot.

Ok, that definatly does not make me happy...I am just programming this for work, and unfortunatly this scanner cannot be programmed by hand. I think it sucks that uniden cannot provide a software(since there including it anyway) to program these things....I already purchased the ARC software for the 996, I am not buying another software for 30.00 just to program this and never use it again. Ridiculous....

I am going to hijack this thread too. I downloaded the software from Uniden to control my 396, and I can't find a way to get the registration key. When I click on the link in the software it goes to the Uniden website for software that is not for the 396 and cost money. Are they supposed to send it to you automatically, I never did get it.

Thank you for downloading the Uniden BCD996T software.

Your Serial Registration key is: 78148143

Thank you for downloading the Uniden BCD396T software.

Your Serial Registration key is: 77761878

Since it's free software for the 396 and 996 here's my serials.
And try using the demo software from others, some are full with a timer but will let you program. I programed a pro-96 with demo..that was all i needed to do and wham-done.

This is an old saw and has been discussed many times both here and on the various Yahoo groups. If you really care to know why, do a search.

396T Software

Hey everyone,
I don't see what the problem is here, all I did was register my new unit once and then downloaded the software then installed it. No problem!
Then
I went on vacation and needed to use someone else's computer to re-tune my 396T with new freqs so all I did was log onto Uniden and download the software and as long as I have my Uniden user name and password it will remind you what your inital serial number is and all you have to do is cut & paste!
I thought I would have a harder time myself.
Best of luck!

CHM Extension Setting Checked

Hiegtx...I checked the settings in the folder option and everything is in order. What do you recommend next. Note: I tried the help contents in some other programs on my computer and everything works fine wtih those programs. I not sure what the issue could be...do you recommend going direct with UPMAN?

I re-read this and I am still unclear on one point. Have you used Windows Explorer to actually drill down to the location where the help (chm) file is and double click it. If so what happens?

Lou, I've drilled down to the chm file and double click and received the same error message in the above original request for assistance. I also right clicked and tried to open it that way with no results.

Raven,
The other programs, where the Help file works: Are their Help files in the CHM file format?
If so, then you got a bad download on the files for the 396 & 996 programs.

If they are in a different format, such as HTML, AML, or LIT, then the reader for CHM may be corrupted. See this article. You might also look at this Microsoft page.

BTW I am so thankful you gave me the free keys to enter. I e-mailed Uniden on 7-12 about the problem and never received a reply. Nice :thumb down:

EDIT: Does somebody here work for Uniden? Not long after I posted this I got an e-mail with the key.
