I finally reached nirvana with my scanner & a decoding program. Yes, the 996 is an excellent scanner and tracks very well on its own, but there's nothing like having the ability to see EVERYTHING being broadcast on the system at once, capture and enter radio IDs on the fly, and prioritize every talkgroup individually. I also have the ability to switch and hold on any displayed talkgroup that catches my interest. And the colors! What eye-candy! Anyway, Trunk-88 is the first one to my knowledge that controls the 996. It really adds to the listening pleasure...:)

Scorch,

I couldn't agree any anymore with your sentiment about how remarkable TRUNK88 truly is! I'm even more amazed that more people aren't running it as it is the best for what it was programmed to do!

Looking at your TRUNK88 screen shot I see that your FGA activity field doesn't display the time. As an FYI in the event you or anyone else is not aware, you can also display the time in the FGA activity field (area between the channel and the affiliation fields).

ystem menu
[E]dit settings
[L]ogging parameters
Downarrow to "FGA timestamp size"
Ctrl-H to view choices and then enter your choice accordingly.

Done! Thanks for the suggestion. I consider myself to be a neophyte with this program. Can you tell me what the green & brown bars by the data stream are? Also, how do I change all the backgrounds to black (and the black text to something else)?

Yeah mods, I know, a little OT, feel free to move it if you wish.

So you want to make it look like Trunker...

You have to take care of any black text first. From the main Command prompt,

Edit Defaults / Non - channel area display elements

Scroll down and change the color for any element using Color zero (black):

"SysID:"
"Zone:"
"Zone Name:"
"System:"
"Mode:"
"Banks:"
User Input Prompt Color
Error/Warning Messages
Shift States Display

Pressing Ctrl-R (redraw screen) will show the effects of your changes.

Then it's time to visit Edit Defaults / Event log colors; the Background Color field for each of the 20 or so entries has to be changed to zero. Of course, any entries with a Text Color of zero (black) will need to be changed to a non-zero value of your choice. Again, you can use Ctrl-R to see your changes.

Once all that's done, Edit Defaults / Backgrounds and colors; set the colors for all areas to zero. Another Ctrl-R and you're done.

Trunk88 rules. I don't know what I would do without it. I just put a tap on my uniden nascar scanner today since my other scanner I had tapped failed.

And as you can see from the screenshot I just turned on my FGA timestamps.

I made a Flickr Tag of all of my T88 Screenshots:

Here's a recent shot of the NC Statewide Radio System VIPER.
I took this right after the tornadoes a couple weekends ago:

Steve,
I wish VIPER only had 12 voice channels. :D
My friends in Public Safety always get a kick out of when
I show them their radios on Trunk88 as they affiliate/change
channels. "I can see my radio on your computer!!!" :D

And here I am wishing I had a big system like yours to track.

Move on down to Central NC :)
(Everyone else is!) :D
We have 3 3600bps Moto Systems in this area (VIPER, Cary & Durham).
And they are all scheduled to move up to 9600bps P25 in the next several years.
Monitoring here is a blast. There is always something to hear.
I use T88 & Unitrunker daily and have Pro96Com on standby for
when I go out of town.

I'd hate to have to give a name to all the radio Id's on Viper, took me a while to give some kind of name (alot of note paper) to close to 4,500 Id's plus or minus a few hundred. :D

I can't see your radio, that's not fair! :p

I really need to Alphatag more RIDs/UIDs.
I mean of course you monitor a system long enough
you get to know the ins & outs. I know VIPER better
than alot of the guys who work on it everyday. :D
76xxxx RIDs are console IDs, 736xxx are Raleigh PD Handhelds, 737xxx
are Raleigh PD Mobiles. So we can tell that the unit talking on
"RPD LE OPS 9" is a handheld radio while the one talking on
Southeast Division TAC 1 (SED TAC 1) is a mobile unit (737436).
I give Rick (Unitrunker) and Andrew (T88) alot of credit for
continuing to work on these programs for free and keeping them
updated. Kudos to them both!
I seem to remember many years ago Greg Knox's TrunkTrac costing
a pretty penny. How far we have come.

I'm glad that works out with Viper, knowing the Id's, but, in time when radio repair exchanges radios for repair, or new installs, cars in accidents, etc. the id numbers in time can get out of wack. Some times when a radio is repaired it doesn't go back in the original car.

Also, being retired it gave me something to do, I enjoyed it for the first 1,000. <laughing>
