I purchased a new usb cable for my BCD996XT scanner that works on Win 10, and I need to know the exact driver I need to get this cable to communicate with my scanner on my windows 10 computer.

It would help if you posted a link to the cable you bought. Some are Prolific PL2303 chipset and some are FDTI chipset.

IMPORTANT: The drivers linked above will only work with cables that use the Prolific PL2303 chipset, like the USB-1 cable. If you purchased a 3rd-party USB-to-Serial adapter cable, then you must use the drivers appropriate to that cable. The other major chipset used in USB-to-Serial adapters is made by FTDI. Uniden cannot support 3rd-party cables, but you can check FTDI's website for current drivers if you are using a cable that uses their chipset.

Uniden uses FTDI chipset on their cables I believe. Looks like the cable Bearcat Warehouse is selling is made by Space Shutlle-C or Z. Maybe someone who bought that cable from them can advise because I can not find any info on what chipset Space Shuttle cables use.

The cable going into the scanner is E101344 style 20276 space shuttle-C
Call Bearcat Warehouse and find out where you can get the drivers for the cable.

If you are using Windows, you can go into device Mgr and have Windows search for the right drivers. I would try Bearcat Warehouse first though.

What did Bearcat Warehouse say when you asked them which driver to use?

I would give the guy @ Bearcat Warehouse a call and asking him what chipset the cable uses. I searched those numbers and have not found one with the correct connector. Found HDMI and printer cables.

I am having an issue turning on the front or rear programming ports. When scrolling to each of the ports it won’t let me turn them on. Is there another function on the scanner that would stop me from turning the front or rear ports on?

There is a setting in the menu for the baud rates of the front and rear ports for the BCD996XT. The USB-1 cable should have a USB A connector on one end and a Hirose connector on the other for using the front port. The same cable will work with the BCD396XT also.

So I wanted to thank everyone who responded to my question. I was able to get my Uniden BCD996XT connected to my windows 10 desktop.

I now have a two questions —-> (1) So now that I have my ARC programming software connected to my Uniden scanner. Is P 25 different than P 25 phase 2? The police department in my local area seems to be using P 25 phase 2 digital and when I switch the programming software to P 25 it doesn’t give me any options to insert an NAC. The police department I’m looking to program into my scanner is the Rochester police Department in New York. hopefully someone can help me understand how this works.

Uniden has a software update for the BCD996XT 1.4 to 1.7. So I went through all the directions on the Uniden website so I can update my scanner. It seems that maybe the update can not be obtained on my windows 10 desktop because the scanner is so old. Is there a way to get my scanner update?
‘’Thanks again

The BCD996XT is not capable of decoding P25 Phase 2. Phase 2 has two audio channels (slots) on each frequency. There can be 2 conversations at once using a single frequency. Only the SDS100 and SDS200 scanners are capable of using Site NAC on a trunked system. Don't worry about NAC unless it is a P25 conventional frequency. If you let me know which police agency you are trying to monitor, I will check the database to see if you can receive it. A P25 Phase 2 capable system can still be monitored with your scanner if the talkgroups are Phase 1.

I missed that it is Rochester PD you are trying to monitor. Monroe County and Rochester PD, Fire, and EMS are all Phase 2 which your scanner cannot monitor. T (TDMA) in the Mode column means Phase 2. D is Phase 1.

They must have recently changed over to P2. What is the most recent scanner Uniden makes that will pick up most everything out there?

The Monroe County system sites are all simulcast. The only scanners specifically designed to receive simulcast sites are the Uniden SDS100 handheld and SDS200 base/mobile. Any other P25 Phase 2 capable scanner may or may not work depending upon your location.
