Im trying to delete the pre loaded states from the memory of my BCT 15x because I am having problem with it defaulting to them. I tried initializing the memory and it worked but the second part where the directions say it will ask about restoring the factory presets and u can select no that part is not comming up. any ideas how to delete stuff from the factory set up?

OK thanks, do you know if theres a way you can take them out of the scanning menu? so when your going through to select you systems such as cb air marine ect the state will not be in there? and im assuming its the same with all the custom "1-10" systems you also cannot delete?

You cannot delete them. But, it is easy enough to just turn them off if you don't want them.

Good to know that I had thought about getting a 15X now I know NOT to!

If you lock them out, you'll never even know that they're there. I have one for a few months and haven't even noticed the state frequencies. It's an excellent scanner in it's own right, especially if you don't need digital.

Guys, don't give up on this scanner. It is one of the most sensitive scanners I've owned. The flood of options available are truly amazing.

Do we all understand that the ability or not to delete these preloaded state systems has nothing to do with your personal programming options? You can choose to use the preloaded stuff or not. I personally don't use them and they're all off and not in any "system" in my 15X.

It's like buying a new car that comes with some color of floor mats that you just don't like. Don't spoil the deal on the great car for the floor mats. Just throw them in the trunk and drive outta there... Who cares if you can't refuse them in the deal? Besides, maybe someday those floor mats will come in handy...

Then you need to start by understanding what those "codes" are. (For trunked systems, you need to enter the system frequencies and the Talk Group IDs for the channels in the system you want to hear.)

See the articles I linked to above.

As mentioned, Freescan is freeware. The other 2 are commercial. Each has their own strong/weak points and you should try all 3 out to see which one you like.
