BCT15X: BCT15X Alert Light

I have several frequencies programmed in where I set the alert light to FLASH RAPIDLY.
I thought the little alert light above the volume knob would flash. What I am finding is the back light in the display flashes.
Is this normal? Not really spelled out in either manual.

That alert light is for when you are using "close call" and radio finds an active freq. Then that light flashes. Yeah that backlight flashing is annoying so I dont bother with any of that.

Actually right now I like the Display lighting up. I have a bunch of Air and MilAir frequencies I am trying out so it helps me see I have a hit.

OK thats cool if it benefits you. I think it would be cool to be able to assign different colors to different quick keys.

On the 15x there are 7 colors available for the visual alert (or OFF).

Where how? I only see Blue and Red and then the orange display backlight.

My mistake. I apologize. I thought I was looking at a BCT15X when I was actually looking at a BCD996P2. (both are black units)

On the BCT15X...SET ALERT LIGHT per the above menu navigation only has these choices:

Off
Slow Blink
Fast Blink

I got a G4. BCT15x is my base milair.

I'm in the same boat with a 15X....I just got it to use only for analog (rail, air, etc) and I continue to be baffled by the Alert LED. Does it only work with Close Call and Bear Tracker function? I likely won't be using either of those. The various programming software I've tried (at least FreeScan and ARC) happily let you choose colors, but it apparently doesn't work that way...! <sigh>. And yeah, the flashing screen route doesn't work for me either.

Yes only with those functions. For everything else, the display lights (Backlights) flash, or turn on depending on the mode chosen.
