So I hooked up the GPS to my scanner, what does the GPS do? All I see so far is it shows me how far and what direction I am from my home. I thought it would allow me to get the freqs that are active in the area I am in. I have this scanner mounted in my work truck and the area I cover is roughly 75 mile radius from my home point. I don't want to loose the option to listen to the freqs that I already have programmed in but would like to pick up local dispatches around the area I am working in also. So I guess the question is.... How do I set this thing up???

Thanks Everybody

That is My question, also how do you set this up, where you live without a zip code?
As far as I know the only thing You can setup by zip code is the HP-1, so what is the use of GPS?

With the BCT15x and the GPS hooked up you can hold the GPS button down and it allows you to add your home location via the GPS location at that point. I did that today. That works fine. Now I can drive around and see which way home is and how far as the crow flies. However anything else I have no clue on.

Let's step back a minute and review some things...

The 15X (and the other DMA scanners) are not like Home Patrol, where you can enter a zip code for location related scanning. You have to either download an application (like FreeScan) and get the data from our database, or ask someone for data in your respective state's forum.

Location Based Scanning (which uses a GPS) allows you to unlock systems, sites and groups based on parameters you define without having to fumble with keys while driving around

These 2 articles have many links and details to get you started...

Program your DMA Scanner - The RadioReference Wiki

Location Based Scanning - The RadioReference Wiki

I would start by downloading the Easier to Read manual from the index in the first article (at the bottom). Work with that and learn about DMA before moving on to Location Based Scanning.

If you're talking about an application, that would be ARC-XT, and that will also work
