• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

It’s a rabbit hole.

No E-Z location to mount horn.
Needs an amp.
Then, there’s the wiring.

And, not a CB where, mobile context of use, is what matters above gear. That which most may never gain in sufficiency. Radio rig thus framed is more easily understood, locations chosen, and use delineated.

Using one while all is going pear-shaped at over 60-MPH is not the time to find out bad choices were made re gear & mounts.

Why this linked thread exists is as a shortcut:

Public Address to tell those blocking a Portland road to move, or else, . . . .

I wouldn’t call it a pain if a good location for the speaker horn is found.

The rest is detail. A plan, laid out.

Police vehicle is the model to follow. GALLS and others for current equipment. eBay if you take the time to search for auctioned gear.

Where located on today’s tighter underhood confines vehicles (Charger, etc)

The CVPI Ford used 1992-2006 or so is another.

The assumption is that you want to be heard.
Hood closed, engine-running, and in traffic.

I’d have a helper in another car before permanent mount. Just the downward angle of a fenderwell mount may need to be changed. Search for photos.

It’s easy to mount one behind a brush guard, but that may not be desirable. “Hey, you! Yeah, you, the stupid one . . , “

Vehicle-specific mounts.

GROTE is trusted HQ truck supplier of lighting products.

So, at this end — with cab-mount control box — is the $$ way to go.

Literally, I’d try something like these and see if it works out; it’s what I’ll do on first go-round.

1). On vehicle metal fenderwell aimed at radiator can work.

2). Same for across front of radiator crossmember (behind grille).

3). Off windshield cowl aimed down.

I’ve installed car horns in all these locations.

If you can fit the horn for non-interference then a bracket can be cobbled up.

No traffic, wind or engine noise. “Other person” is outdoors, not in vehicle in traffic with A/C on.

The quality of installations is low. Do better.

I “think” the CB audio can be patched in on some type control heads. (A pair of white wires on one of them).

You do not want an emergency vehicle speaker. That is not what you use for the CB PA feature. Those are for 100 watt emergency vehicle sirens.

That CB PA feature is probably 10-15 watts and you need a PA Horn speaker.
