If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a fairly new 3 month old Bearcat 980 with a tuned mobile antenna. It works great but for the last month I have an issue only with sideband, either one, AM is fine. I key up start talking and before you know it the meter is pinned and no more audio. I have tried without Talkback, with Talkback, lowering the mic gain, nothing works. Sometimes it works fine for say a few hours but most of the time it has this issue, you key up start talking meter pins and no more TX audio, when you unkey all is good but you TX again and bang. AM never has an issue. SWR 1.1 to 1.3 on External Meter. Power right to the battery with fuse, both positive and negitive, large wire. Coax is fine antenna is fine, all have been heavily tested. Is this radio hooped? Otherwise I loved this radio, even though it was short lived....

Any help would be great. Purchased brand new off Amazon, so it is mine now they said no warranty after 30 days?????

Posts like this get me nervous I just bought a 980 2 days ago, just shipped from Amazon this morning. Then within 48 hours I learn that the mic that comes with it is weak and now this.

Did you use it in SSB a lot?
What antenna do you use?

I'm hoping my reentry in to the CB world is worth the $200 I just spent on this radio and a Wilson 1000.

I have the Uniden 980, Have had absolutely no problems with AM or Sideband. The original mic is okay, but I use a truck stop power mic with better result. I plan on another one soon, but I shy away from Amazon.

Check with Uniden. I believe the factory warranty is for 1 year.

Which brings up the age old question of an item being bought through Amazon and not a brick and mortar company where you get an actual receipt.

I am strongly curious since I just bought this same radio, if Uniden will honor any said 'Year Warranty' and the steps necessary to ensure they will after I receive mine.

As for SpaceMann's post I'll know next week once it arrives and I can look at the enclosed documentation.

You're wrong here. When you buy stuff on Amazon, the purchase is stored in your Order History, which you can access and print out years later if needed. Plus, most items include a dated invoice/bill of sale in the package.

Not that this helps a lot, but I've had some issues with mine as well. Intermittently, the S meter simply does its' own thing - no reading on RX, strange readings on TX, and SWR always reads perfect 1.00:1 - despite the fact that I know for certain the true reading is 1.3:1, slightly higher on the band edges.

I can watch the meter behavior change, despite the fact that the Dosy shows the radio is doing what it's supposed to be doing.

I bought mine a few months after they came out, so it may not be the same issue. I'll update if I find a source or better insight.
