Beartracker 885 sd card NYSEG

Is there any way to get the nyseg trunking onto the uniden Beartracker 885 update SD card ? I got on it and it’s not on there. I would like to hear power outages and restore times more Than ambulance calls . i realize it’s not on one of the 4 turned on but I was thinking maybe I can switch/change once it’s on Sd card .

I got on it and it’s not on there.

Says the scanner it will receive,

"Digital Trunk tracking Scanner: Receive police, fire, ambulance, and DOT dispatch transmissions wherever you are in the US and Canada*"

Is it a full blown trunking scanner or restricted to just what's listed above? NYSEG talkgroups are all listed as Utilities.

Than ambulance calls .

Should do ambulance from whats in it already.

I believe someone got creative on how to edit the database contained on the 885's SD card to change service types to a value scanner will care about. You'd have to do some research here on the forums to see if you are comfortable with the process.

Yes I have read how to turn on frequencies. Think I can do that. Problem is nyseg is not listed. So 1. Who makes up that list ? Could they please enter nyseg . They have beach lifeguards in nyc , Yes they are on there fort drum , Remington arms and more. Nyseg is listed here on RR. I have them working in base scanner at home . So I know it works

The download to your scanner is sourced from RR, so it should be there unless something is stopping it from downloading. Can you post a link to the RR entry for this system?

Nevermind, I found it. Have you updated database for your 885 recently?

Ok, according to this the 885 doesnt download/import the entire HP database and just filter what is received on the scanner as I had assumed.

The 885 only supports the following Service Tags: Fire Dispatch, EMS Dispatch, Law Dispatch, Public Works. It does not import any systems that don't conform to those four service tags. NYSEG is a utility company, therefore all of the talkgroups are tagged as Utilities. The 885 does not even import the system, and there is nothing we at RadioReference can do to change that.

You have two options:

1) Learn how to manually edit the 885's database files to add NYSEG so you can scan it, just know that every time you update the microSD card using the Uniden update software, you will overwrite your customizations.

or

2) Buy a mobile scanner that allows you to customize what you listen to.

Not sure there will be much if any activity with lifeguards this time of the year.

thanks gtr8000 im going with option 1 you have . thats what i was going to do from the start. change the DOT to see nyseg . this brings up question #2 anyone testing out software to manage scanner programing to SD cards . , i thought it was all on the card like there is way more than i ever expected to be like last night i found ski lodge frequencys thats weird .

Nevermind, I found it. Have you updated database for your 885 recently?

Yes I downloaded from uniden to card yesterday. When I opened it showed it was updated February 25 . I’m hoping who ever does the update to uniden from radio reference will see this post and add it . Then I can maybe switch the information codes . ( ex 1-police 2-fire 3-EMS 4-DOT ) if say nyseg is 16 I would have to change that to 4 .

I have an 885 and I also have a 536HP. I can do a main database pull for the 536 and change the code for you if you would like. The 885 uses the same database structure as the x36HP series.

File is linked below as it is to large to upload here. All NYSEG trunked is now in Highway/DOT setup for the 885. Just extract the zip file and copy over what is on your SD card in the 885. Also with this file, you have full database unlike what the 885 Updater software pulls.

No problem. I've worked on the files before as I have one of the 885's and I removed other items I didn't want to listen to around me and changed some tags so I could hear everything I wanted to.

I’m getting SD error on 885 . I didn’t transfer BCDx36HP to original SD card in scanner because afraid of messing it up . I have two new cards I’m using . I copy/paste files from original to desktop then to new card then I unzipped and replaced file BCDx36HP with one you sent . It says sd error. So should I try replace the original file HPDB with one in your BCDx36HP ?

I think I formatted but not sure it worked correctly. I’ll try it again. I’m not used to windows. I’m a apple guy

Are you running the 885 Updater under Wine to update your card? Not sure how all that works as I have Mac systems as well. If you are and are able to update a card, I'd do an update to one of the other cards then replace with the zip file. If I recall correctly it is formatted as FAT. So you would need to go into Utilities>Disk Utility and then format root of the SD card as MS-DOS FAT. You should be able to un-zip everything from the file onto the SD card and it should load. I've done this before, only on a windows machine.

Well I format SD card on Mac . Then replace the HPDB file with modified one . It looks like it’s working now. I just got to have them talk . I’m looking into what Chemung county calls com center . I might just be out of range. More test to do. Think my problem was new windows computer didn’t format it correctly to just FAT . I Think it said exFat.
