A 'full' 1/4 wave antenna, of whatever brand, will typically 'beat' any of the furnished 'rubber-duck' antennas. Adding a 'rat's tail' to that 1/4 wave, or just to the rubber-duck will also improve things. May not be by much, but it'll still be an improvement.

Diamond products all around have excellent reputations in in every segment of the ham market, they pretty much stick to what in wanted and or needed if a "special radio" comes out.

And on the subject of special radio's Yaesu Please stop calling radios with milliwatts on 220 "tribanders" unless you start calling them "franked" radios also brcsudr with that little power the only person you are going to communicate with is the poor guy from peoria who doesn't have any clue whats going on, other than the people in the car are very nice and say just call up front if you nerd to use the mens room or are hungry or snything, Thats trunked radio!!!

Peace

Give me your brands and model numbers. Links are preferred.

Please help us give you better answers by defining what you mean by "best" (it does matter!).
* Is your "best" the most stealthy (aka shortest possible antenna)?
* Is your "best" the most flexible (some are very flexible while others are rather stiff - the stiff ones may break for some folks while the super-flex models may get twisted out of shape too easily for others)?
* Is your "best" the one with the most range (may be long, ugly, and poke your armpit, face, and/or eyes often)?
* Is your "best" the lowest cost antenna available?
* What other important criteria do you have for your antenna?

You can probably get several antennas from each category, but they'll probably only be "best" in one of those categories and may be pretty poor in the others.

If your radio uses the BNC connector, I have had excellent results with the Icom FA-1443B antenna which came stock on the W-32, & the W-2 radios back in the day. As good as any of the Diamond/Comet antennas.
