This past week I've heard Bexar Co. Fire Alarm dispatch a station I've not heard before: District 5. The response area appears to be south Bexar Co. which is also the general area for Emergency Services District 5. According to the Jarret VFD Web page, ESD 5 is covered by Jarret, Somerset, Southwest, and Lytle VFDs.

Anybody know what department "District 5" is? Is it one of the above departments by a new name? Is it a new manner of dispatching, i.e. by ESD rather than individual departments (though I continue to hear BCFA dispatch Jarret and Somerset individually).

Kudos to Jarret for the nice Web page. Plenty of photos and info, plus they posted a nice Bexar Co. fire response map.

Their homepage is: http://www.jarretfr.com/

Yes. "Southwest" is defunct. "District 5" covers the territory that was previously handled by Southwest.

No. All other Bexar County fire departments will continue to use their names as before.

There was some controversy with Southwest, and I suspect that the new department didn't want to be associated with any of the stigmas left behind, so I presume that they went with a new name to disassociate themselves from the previous department.
