Was just curious if there was some kind of Bluetooth transmitter that could be plugged into the headphone jack of a scanner and connected to a Bluetooth headset.

Yep, they are all over ebay. I started with one of the more expensive Schosche ones and it died after a year, so now using a cheap ebay one for $15. Seems to be working pretty well and gotta a backup one when it dies.

Now the only thing to be aware of is most of the BT transmitters out there are using the stereo A2DP protocol which what is preferred for music. For a scanner probably doesn't matter since its in mono, but that's generally what you will find out there. Finding a BT transmitter that doesn't use the A2DP profile is actually pretty tough.

So the problem you could run into if you aren't careful is that simple BT headsets that are out there for cell phones, most of those only have the HFP/HSP profile. They don't support the A2DP or AVRCP profiles which means they won't pair. You need to make certain you find one that supports the A2DP profile.

I own the Samsung HM6450 and this is a great headset. It supports two different HFP/HSP profiles at the same time and also supports an A2DP profile. Plus you have the option of wearing it over just one ear like most BT headsets or it comes with a set of headphones that plug into it. It works great. The only negative you'll find out there about it is the front cover likes to pop off and mine did too, but a piece of tape solves that.

I also own a TaoTronics TT-BA01 and is very satisfy with it. Just plut it into my iPod and then connect to my headset. Works great and was easy to set up. Range is pretty good, 10 meters or so until it starts to lose signal strength. The first one I ordered stopped working after one week but Amazon quickly replaced it. I have had the second one for two months or so with zero problems.

I just bought this transmitter. It paired quickly with my headphones.
The only thing I don't like is the manual says don't use it while charging.
That means you need to turn it off every time you turn the scanner off.

When I summon up enough courage, I'm going to try running it with the
charger connected.

I got this in Oregon using standard USPS shipping in only two days.

New SK BTI 002 Stereo Bluetooth Audio Dongle Adapter | eBay

Bluetooth Stereo Dongle (Transmitter)

I waded through the "Chinglish" and re-wrote it for convenience.

First Step. Charge for about 4 hours (Red light goes out when charged).
Second Step: If headphone has paired with another device you must
delete the old pairing.
1. Hold button until blue light flashes.
2. Double click the button.
3. Turn OFF by holding button until red light flashes 3 times.

To turn it ON to pair it with headphones:
(Headphones & BTI-002 should be 2 feet or closer together).
1. Put headphones into pairing mode.
2. HOLD BTI-002 button until Red & Blue lights flash alternately. It will stay in pairing mode for 2 minutes.
3. When pairing is successful, blue light will flash every 10 seconds.
(After successfeul pairing, just turn on headset and BTI-002)
NOTE: If blue light flashes twice quickly, pairing NOT successful. Try again.

Low Battery warning: Red light continuously flashes.

Bluetooth Headset

I should have mentioned the BSH10 headsets I bought. They were designed in England and they responded quickly to my e-mails. They are, of course, made in China and shipped direct from Hong Kong. The arrived in about 10 days. I have seen them advertised as high as $59.95, so the $19.95 I paid was a good bargain. They work great on my TV.

Are you using that adapter with the PSR-800? If so, are you also using it with a rubber duck antenna on the radio and are you obtaining good results on the 800 Mhz band, too? I'm presently using a different adapter, which works well on lower FM bands but on 800 MHz the audio is distorted. Thanks
I've used it on a 396XT, with a duck, at 800 MHz. I didn't notice any objectionable distortion. I'll try it again.
