Boafeng UV-17 and IRLP

I am trying to access some IRLP nodes via my local 2m repeater. I have confirmed the repeater has IRLP setup and the UV-17 is sending the DTMF tones when I press the keys.

What is the correct way to do this?

Ask the repeater operator for permission to use IRLP and the list of DTMF commands.
Aside from other local repeater users nobody else will be able to tell you how to use IRLP (or AllStar or EchoLink, etc.) because nobody else knows how your local repeater is configured.
