Boston FD

I was in Boston this past weekend, and noticed that the some of the BFD calls were dispatched off of the main dispatch freqs and some were dispatched off of the paging freqs. But the two dispatches never coincided with each other. How does BFD system work?

Tones are sent for station alerting on Channel 5. The boxes are announced and tapped on Channel 1.

So only fire calls are dispatched off of Channel 1, but EMS and all other types of calls are dispatched off of Channel 5? What channel do units monitor while on the road out of their quarters?

If a company is on the air, they will receive all calls on Channel 1. Boxes are also tapped on Channel 1. All calls are put out on Channel 5, unless the apparatus is on the air.

What channel do units monitor while on the road out of their quarters?

Channel 1. AFAIK, no apparatus has Channel 5.
