• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

Hey guys, I appologize in advance if this has already been covered in another thread, but to my best ability, I havent been able to find it anywhere.

I just bought a Shack PRO-197. I dont have any software, or the programming cable, because I dont own a PC. I have a macbook, but it appears that is not compatible.

My question is if anyone can give me a walkthrough on how to set my scanner up on Wyolink specificaly for Fremont County. I am a Firefighter, so I'm pretty good with radios, and programming, this stuff is just too confusing and frustrating.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Programming the 197

I have the 197 and the best solution is to find someone in your area that has the computer and cable to do the programming. The 197 is a popular scanner and it is likely that someone in the local fire services already has a 197 set up for your area.

I tried manual programming on this as well as the older Pro-96 and it is a very time comsuming process to enter a significant amount of trunking systems and talk groups.

Best regards,

The Spud
