There are 2 sites almost ready to go active, the one behind the sheriffs office, and another in the north part of the county. All Grimes county law, fire, and EMS will be on the system in the first quarter of 2018. BVCOG and The City of Bryan gave about 200 radios to Grimes county to get them going.

I'm surprised that they need a site in the north part of the county. Brazos County's Millican tower is only a few miles north of the county line.

Also, I haven't been hearing any new TGIDs. Are they going to use those TGs labeled as "Interop" (3981-3984, 3991-3994 and 4001-4004)? If so I also haven't heard a peep out of those. As for the new sites, I'm probably too far north to pick them up even with an outdoor antenna.

The good news for that is I'll finally be able to hear Navasota PD and FD...consistently.

By the way, is it going to be Phase I or Phase II?

Millican is due west of Grimes County. The new site is on a brand new tower that was built in Bedias, at the far north end of the county, almost at the Madison County line. Both sites will be dynamic dual mode, and there will be encryption on some of the channels. I do not think the talk groups listed are correct. I will pull a code plug and update when I can.

Thanks. I've been keeping an eye (and ear) out for new TGs, but haven't heard any. Are they going to do what several other counties that switched from VHF did and continue to patch to VHF?

Also, can someone update the TxWARN DB page with the new sites?

Not until they are online and frequency usage verified. You may add the frequencies to the system wiki page until they are verified to be on the air.

I heard them testing today on the Grimes Fire Disp VHF "different units were saying testing, testing, testing and then Dispatch said testing on the new Grimes County fire talkgroups"

Is the new TxWarn Site Up in Anderson yet?

Well, if they are doing active testing then it probably is. Can anyone give me a list of the frequencies for that site?

I actually heard the testing stuff a few minutes ago on VHF but I didn't pick up any corresponding TG on TxWARN.

Okay, I just got a hit. I heard the tail end of what I think was SO traffic ("...10-4, 1416 at 1609") on what was originally planned to be Bryan Public Works Wastewater Treatment (2569). I suspect people should start looking for Grimes County traffic on any TG between 2569 and 2586.

With this development, I have a sneaking suspicion as to where those extra radios that Bryan donated to them came from. Way back when Bryan PD/FD cut over to TxWARN, Bryan Utilities and Public Works was supposed to follow them on. However, for some reason they decided to stay on the old Type II system until late December of last year, and then switch over to a DMR CAP+ system. Those radios were probably intended for Bryan Utilities and had their TGs programmed into them. I suspect what they did was simply reassign some of those TGs.

Thanks. Anyway, I just heard Grimes County SO Dispatch (confirmed on 2569) notify that FD was going to be paged out. I only heard the page on VHF, and again I have been unable to locate their TG.

I am actually listening off of the Brazos County sites. I'm probably too far north to pick up that new site. I even have trouble picking up the Millican site.

It appears that Grimes County Sheriff is simulcasting on TxWARN and not actually using it because I can hear squelch tails after some transmissions. I have yet to hear anything from Navasota PD, Navasota FD or Grimes County VFD on TxWARN.

I suspect it might be a few weeks (or months) before the entire county switches over. I can imagine a lot of radios used by surrounding agencies will need to be reprogrammed with the new talkgroups. In addition, mobile units need to be swapped out or installed.

I do find it kind of odd that they decided to switch over after plopping down a good chunk of change to add P25 capability to the SO repeater several years ago.

That 154.800 repeater was changed over around 2007-ish when I was still living in the area. Technology and interoperability plans have changed quite a bit since then, and there is a lot of talk about the XTS radios losing support from M. The switch to the TxWARN was inevitable IMO, but I am sure that the sheriff and fire departments aren't thrilled about having to shell out the money that is hard to come by as it is.

Not sure if/when it's coming online or if it will be a new frequency, but the Robertson County FD/EMS channel is going P25 digital soon.

talk group 2573 was already used for city of Bryan new construction at least that is what its shows in unitrunker not that it could be out of date. Also I don't understand why no one on TxWarn is using VHF trunking like they do on GATRRS in the south.
