The pics on that news site show it is a CASA C-212-CC40. Transport Canada registry shows that Fugro Aviation owns two of them, one C-FDKM and one C-GDPP.

Based on what I can see of the mark/tail number on one of those two photos, I would say it's FDKM.. the last letter has two downward strokes, not one.

Airliners.net has a photo of FDKM here: Photos: CASA C-212-CC40 Aircraft Pictures | Airliners.net

Jay, thanks for the info! Too bad neither are listed as being at YXE. I have photos of one of them from a few years back.

Looks like the pilots did just about everything they could in the circumstances. Sad that the equipment operator died.

I don't imagine a machine with that kind of crazy antenna gear surrounding it would have had much chance making a landing anywhere but on a runway anyway.

Looking at the wreck I can see why he didn't make it. Too bad I didn't have my live feed going then it would be an interesting listen.

That report is an interesting read.

It is a combination of mechanical and pilot error. I've never been in that situation as a pilot so I can't say I'd do anything different. It is a shame there was loss of life but the pilot has to be complemented that there wasn't more and I don't just mean him and the co-pilot either. He landed in a residential area and next to a major roadway. I could have been a lot worse.

I hope it doesn't happen again any time soon.
