Brevard has lit up their P25 system that will eventually replace their 30 year old analog EDACS system.

Currently only the (edit: south - palm bay) site is active on 852.6125

Funny, they are using the same WACN as Ozaukee County, EDIT: Wisconsin (at least for now) --- this system will be very much in play over the coming weeks.

I notice some systems are same Wacn and SysID. It is possible this won't change? Good catch by the way.... Last week I was trying to see if I was able to get that system in Polk County since bands were open, no luck on that.

Haris systems usually have their system ID as 00A, with the WCAN being different per system. On that page in the upper right, you can filter the results by WACN.

Has this system been added to the database yet? Can't seem to find it

Also, I can't receive this system from my location. With DSD+ 852.6125 pulls in a very faint signal from a different trunk system. Are there any other sites or frequencies on the air yet?

it has not been added to the database - it's still being tested and configured. 851.400 is active right now as is 852.6125.

it is a P25 Phase 2 capable system.

I do not know anything about encryption plans, but based on the surrounding counties, you can probably expect it.

I would not expect the EDACS system to go offline until the system is built out and accepted by the County - historically, that could be several months or even a year +.

I would say they would be going Phase 2. I rarely see new P1 systems deployed anymore.

any /all encryption ?
Any encryption is way too early to tell. But it is Florida, so anything is possible.

when will edcas go offline for brevard ? thanks
Im assuming it will go offline when everyone is switched over. But that will be years away.

Current trend, based on surrounding counties in east Florida, would indicate leaning heavily towards all LE TG's being encrypted when completed. Only time will tell.

All new P25 Trunking systems being built out are Phase 2 TDMA with Phase 1 FDMA fall back capability.

None of the major manufacturers are building out strictly P25 Trunking Phase 1 FDMA capable systems. The money is in marketing and selling "newish" technologies like Phase 2 TDMA and LTE capability.

Not doing much today except listening to VHF airband, so I thought I would put together some data.

All of this is a YMMV situation - cities and counties are notorious for not operating exactly per their license. The Brevard EDACS trunk is VERY OLD... going on 30 years of service. Even today, the system appears from a monitoring perspective to work fairly well with the exception of some really bad co-channel interference from Orange, Lake and Marion counties (the control channels from these systems sometimes completely obliterate the same-freq analog channels of the EDACS trunk - holding talkgroups open and making transmissions impossible for the users). My monitoring over the last several years indicates that the problem freqs are 853.650 (Marion County), 851.150 (Orange Co Convention Center site) and 853.5375 (PSIC / Lake County Central Site). When the bands are open and these three systems are using any of those three frequencies for their CC - the Brevard system really suffers.

this document below - 'Extended Implementation' was filed as an addendum on May 12th, 2025 (modification) to WQSY971 and is probably the only "real" item that I have found which details some of the system milestones. Note the cutover milestone in December 2025.

------------------------------------------------------------

First callsign. WQSY971

There are three towers under this license.

The next license, WNWQ632 covers FOUR towers, and at least for now, seems to be where the initial P25 channels are being diverted from.

The next license covers the two "Beach" sites under callsign WQWU401:

Now, go back to the first picture that lists the system milestone data. The table at the bottom of this picture clearly shows a total of 9 sites (towers) for the P25p2 system across only a "north" and "south" "system" - My thoughts are that this table is a bit ambiguous - My >OPINION< is that while there may be a "north" and "south" system - this will all be seamless (aka 9 site Simulcast) when the system switches to full P25 - meaning the radio users will no longer have to change 'systems' on their radios.

The other takeaway is that the geography of the current site map could lead you to conclude that the first site that is being converted to P25 may not be "Palm Bay" (as it is currently listed in the RRdB) - it could very well be the Site #7 on Lansing Street.

Be patient. Keep your ears open. The next 5-6 months will be interesting to watch this system come to life.
