Because of the tragic loss of two officers, Bristol Police will be augmented with surrounding towns and state police for patrol duties. Bristol Police is fully encrypted but I was wondering how the surrounding depts will be handling radio comms while helping Bristol. I’ve got interagency and mutual aid frequencies already programmed but haven’t heard any radio calls that might be associated with Bristol. And for all I know state police may be using a patch to Bristol? Wondering if others have an idea how the comms will work? (I have Bristol police normally avoided but have un-avoided their TG’s this morning in an attempt to learn if they have any unencrypted traffic-so far, nothing.)

All day yesterday, Bristol was being covered by troopers from various troops around the state and was being dispatched on one of the Common channels. Don't recall which one.

I haven't heard them doing that today, however.

I heard all types of calls being handled at various Bristol locations.

I wasn’t listening yesterday. But I’ve been told they set up a sched, various depts providing coverage, no one dept handling every day. My guess is it will continue until at least through to when the funeral arrangements have completed. I listen to Farmington PD (DND PRIORITY) and so far haven’t caught any chatter that would indicate Bristol activity. Thanks for the input.

Today I'm hearing various troopers reporting to Bristol for afternoon Roll Call, so they're most likely using Bristol's radios.

We'll see (hear).

Edit: Just heard the procession is leaving UConn now.

Use Bristol’s radios? Or Bristol’s trunked system? I understand they have drop-in base consoles that work using the internet in some capacity… exactly how I don’t know. While I’m sure they have the ability to handle comms using various makes, models and modes, it really isn’t all that important. In just a few days things will be back to normal and we won’t hear anything due to full time encryption on everything. I have heard them but only on a TG they routinely use for traffic details such as when a contractor is digging up the street and narrowed the road down to one-way travel, alternating from each direction. But that’s about all I’ve ever heard from BPD.

Thanks everyone. I’m sure there will be some sort of “after action report” that lays out the how’s and whys which includes patrol coverage. And with your input up front, here in this thread, it helped me to understand, our first responders have every contingency covered. The City of Bristol Police Dept. has allowed for their rank and file to come to the aid of their Brother’s family’s and friends, without work schedule constraints. We all know it’s not enough to simply acknowledge the event, go to the funerals and move on… it’s so much deeper than that.

Hearing other PD’s were covering gave me a sense those best able to provide the support (BPD) we’re given the time and opportunity for providing that support. My interest was not solely based upon curiosity, a “How’d they do that?” sort of thing. That was a part of it, I confess, but my post was driven more from a concern regarding what support was provided to family and friends and what additional support could/should be recognized. So I brought the subject to the attention of this forum and was happy to learn how my concerns were already being met.

Again, thank you to all those who replied.
