I stopped at large yard/junk sale this morning and saw spool of coax for 8 bucks. I wonder if it would be good for scanner use. It has no markings of what it is other than broad band. It looks like it has a foil and braided shield.

I guess you have heard the saying "Garbage in, garbage out". In this case, "lack of info in, produces
nothing out". Not trying to be brushing you aside, but there must be 15 or so coax cables made with
a foils shield and outer braid.

It might help if you provided some info like what diameter the cable is, the center conductor is a
solid or stranded, color of the center insulation, is the shielded braid copper color or silver plated,
color of the jacket and so on.

You will need some of this information just to locate connectors that will mate with the cable.

I went back and it was still there so I bought it. The center is a solid wire and the braid is silver. This is a 1000 foot spool. I'm sure I will put it to use.

Sounds like 75ohm CATV RG-6 which is a tad over 1/4" diameter and will have a white foam type dielectric insulator inside. Several companies like Commscope marked "broad band" on their cables.
