Bucks County Fire

Yes, all of the Bucks County talkgroups on the 500 Mhz trunk system are indeed digital.

--HOWEVER--

If you only want to listen to fire, you don't need a digital or trunking scanner. Since the county went to VHF voice dispatch, there are now analog VHF conventional high band freqs you can use to monitor the talkgroups, which are simulcast on these. (They have had them on the low band too for a long time before the VHF transition started.)

DISPATCH LOW 46.1000 CTCSS 123.0Hz
BUCKS FD NORTH TG 46.4600 CTCSS 123.0Hz
BUCKS FD EAST TG 46.0600 CTCSS 97.4Hz
BUCKS FD WEST TG 46.1200 CTCSS 123.0Hz
(no low band south repeat - but see UHF below)

DISPATCH HIGH 155.5500 CTCSS 123.0Hz
BUCKS FD NORTH TG 153.9050 CTCSS 123.0Hz
BUCKS FD SOUTH TG 155.1150 CTCSS 97.4Hz
BUCKS FD EAST TG 151.2200 CTCSS 97.4Hz
BUCKS FD WEST TG 155.2500 CTCSS 97.4Hz

UHF - DISPATCH & SOUTH TG & EMERGENCY TG & FG-2
460.6250 CTCSS 94.8Hz

The UHF freq is a very strong transmitted located high atop a multi-story apt building in Bristol and can be heard all the way to the ocean!

This thread seems to be a good place to ask my question......Has anyone upgraded their BCD396T to Firmware v3.01 and still getting pops, clicks and dropped TRS P25 digital audio in Bucks Co.? If so, can anyone give me some tweaking instructions to lessen these annoyances? I've tried both auto and manual mode.
Does anyone have a GRE PSR-500 handheld that listens to Bucks P25 digital. How does the digital audio sound on the GRE radios?

I have a PRO-96 (made by GRE for Radio Shack) which is the predecessor to the GRE PSR-500. When I am up in Bucks, I generally get very good audio while driving around unless I hit a poor coverage area (i.e. vicinity of Ralph Stover State Park). I do sometimes get a digital bbrrraaaapppp sound at the start of a transmission, but other than that, the audio is very crisp most of the time just using my handheld inside the vehicle.

I am not familiar with the Uniden models, so I can't really help you there.

Both the GRE PSR-500 and the equivalent Radio Shack PRO-106 work excellent on the Bucks system, as do the PRO-96 and PRO-2096. I no longer have a 396, so I can't comment on the effect that the upgrade has on the audio for Bucks. With the GRE models branded as either RS or GRE, I have never had any audio issues at all, like I used to deal with using the Uniden digitals, regardless of the model (250 / 785 / 796 / 396 / 996).

OK, scanner 101 time. I have a Pro-96 and was just up in the area. I had no joy in tracking York, Dauphin, Or Bucks Co. Do I just put the control channels in, or do I need to tweak some settings to get those systems to work?

We have very little trunking and no straight UHF trunking in the Pittsburgh area. What little we do have requires odd settings.

Thanks,

While you are waiting for someone to hold your hand on this, suggest you read this Pro-96 Cheat Sheet No, your scanner does not come with fire grounds, but you can easily enter them if you look at the Bucks County Countywide Fire (Conventional) Section. The fire grounds listed here are not digital. You can enter all of the frequencies in this table, and your local FD UHF, using the Programming - Storing known non trunked frequencies section of the Cheat sheet. After you have done that, you should look at the Bucks County Digital System You will notice that there are 4 systems by area. You may not be able to hear all the areas, so look at the frequencies (see note) for the one closest to you. You can enter them using the Storing known trunked frequencies instructions. It should be fairly straight forward if you follow the instructions.

Entering the DEC value for each talkgroup is explained in Storing known Talkgroup ID’s. If you wanted to take the easy way out of entering the talkgroups, you can run your scanner in the "open" scan mode, and it will get all the talkgroups without you having to enter them. "To change from Open Mode to Closed Mode (or the reverse).
Press FUNC + 5 (Bank Open or Bank Closed will display)."

Note: your scanner has Control Channel Only trunking so, per the article, you really only have to enter the RED and Blue frequencies. (don't try to enter the "c" or "a" after the frequency)

Disclaimer:p I am not from your area, so I am only showing where to find info. Someone from your area will no doubt correct me if the database is not up-to-date.
