• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Even if it was, swapping out boards to make it into something it wasn't when it was born at the factory voids the FCC type certification, making it pointless for anything but amateur radio use.

There are better multiband radios hitting the market. Sell the 6000, as others suggested, and get what you need.

APX8000's are also beginning to get a little long in the tooth. I got a budgetary from my MR the other day to compare and contrast the 8000 to the NEXT...if I ditch some of the Smart features to make the NEXT feature for feature with a nearly fully loaded 8000...they are just about the same price (my quote for the NEXT was only $200 more than the 8000 with all the Smart features on). Writing is on the wall, /\/\ is pushing the APX-N series so we may only have 18 months or so before the APX8000 ends production if I'm being honest (which will cause the price to drop on the used market).

The APX8000H is also a newer version of the 8000 with a revised RF board, but a bit taller and no so common of a radio. I think the 8000H was released in 2018ish ? And the 8000 was released in 2015 so - both radios are getting up there in age. The BN 6000’s also have been around for a bit too.

Lots of multiband radios out there on the market now. If you want multiband, then get one.
Sell the APX-6000 to some amateur radio Motorola fanboi. They'll love it and pay top dollar to have the batwings logo on the amateur radio. It practically makes them first responders!

Take that money and start shopping:
Kenwood/EF Johnson VP-8000. Multiband, DMR, P25. Damn good radio for less than Motorola.
Tait TP-9800 - Mulitband +P25 for WAY less than Motorola.
Harris XL-200P.
Tait TP-9900 coming soon, multiband + P25 + DMR
Bendix King BKR-9000. P25 multiband for way less than Motorola.

Is the H model considered the Luxury version? Or was it the HXE??? I would not consider anything but the Luxury version.

Is the OP into watches by any chance?

HXE was a super luxury radio, while the H was just standard luxury hahaha

Also - speaking of other multiband radios there’s this guy on YouTube “AdventureCruisers” who has really good videos out about the brand new BK9000 radio that the OP should check out.
